Used to be a good technical culture until March 2019

I have worked at peel-works for 5 years
The company had an excellent Engineering team, that developed a full-stack retail product, until a bunch of Product Leaders who did not understand engineering one bit joined, they loved outsourcing all work to ERP systems and slow PHP based platforms without ever having any experience in doing anything close to this in their past. The product leaders did not have any clue of integrating with an ERP system and built a system that now took 10 mins to book an order which was earlier taking 5 seconds. They prided themselves on such low-grade outsourced tech. Reviews have pointed out that founders are Non-tech, but they are excellent in terms of listening to what is being said. Unfortunately this time they had listened to people who knew no tech. Now the state of the company is such that out of all their businesses close to 30 centers have now reduced to 2, and they have started to delay salaries (> 3 months), all credit goes to the nontech Product Leaders who joined in March 2019.

The company had to lay off performers quickly since their sales are at an all-time low.

Founders need to be very selective in hiring and must assess the skills of their leaders. Leaders who cant build a team to build their own technology and leaders who can only outsource to the lowest bidder must not be part of the team. Previous experience in an IIT or IIM or education may not be a true reflection of the capabilities of a person and such a candidate can also be a non-fit for a startup's aggressive requirements. Keep a passionate team to have a senseful-nonsense ratio optimum.

The company was struggling with Engineering development until a few months back when the new Product Leaders, who luckily understood engineering better than the then existing Engineering leaders, got the system changed with world class softwares in Ecommerce and ERP. The earlier Engineering leaders did not have any clue of integrating with an ERP system and were going to get the implementation wrong. Good that they eventually left. Some reviewers are pointing out that founders are Non-tech. By when in this world founders are expected to be conversant with Technology? Some IT Leaders, who vented out their frustrations by pointing out to founders being non-tech, shows why they needed to exit the system for good. Founders are of a cosmopolitan mindset. The Company has HQ in Mumbai, CEO sits out of Bengaluru, majority of business and finance senior leaders are in Delhi/Gurgaon region, product team is at Bengaluru and Engineering is at Pune. Expecting Founders to travel to each city, whether Covid is there or not, shows the less IQ and EQ of some folks who were the roadblock in the progress of the company, specially Engineering. Founders are ethical and truly passionate about the success of the company. Company has more females than males in most of the Departments and that shows true diversity and equal opportunity mindset of the company. Some tech leaders, who suggested Tech to be outsourced have finally themselves got out from the system for good.

The founders are too benevolent to not lay off non-performers quickly, specially leaders, as that is where the entire department's performance goes for a toss.

1. No work-life balance
2. Poor treatment by leadership team
3. No realistic vision and hence the company often meets failure which is then attributed to its managers or junior level employees who are in turn fired
4. No HR policies and employees are openly exploited and at times even abused
5. The company boasts of being tech-savvy but in reality it makes the least use of technology since the leadership team itself doesn't put much belief in the use of technology
5. Makes its employees useless for other jobs so my suggestion to the people who are going to join it is that they should keep looking for jobs and move on as soon as they get another

Make sure you don't stop your job search, even after joining this organisation.

No respect for employees either by seniors or CEO.
Usual changes in policies, (according to their need).
Like (Leaves are not allowed for 3 months).
Neither you will be paid for those unused leaves in full final settlement
Getting complete settlement amount is a luck here.
Firing is often, (even before pandemic). No guarantee if you are gonna stay even after one month of joining (based on true event).
Use n throw employee policy.
Don't expect replies from HR team.
