Unfortunately, another prevalent trait of PoP is its very concerning toxic work culture. Leadership could improve by prioritizing fostering a safe and transparent environment where employees can thrive. When issues with the treatment of employees are continually brushed under the rug as things that are not priority, it is difficult to believe in the possibility of positive change at PoP. Lack of transparency around why people have left or been asked to leave PoP creates an unsettling and unsafe environment. Constant employee turnover is concerning and no longer "normal" or "coincidence". It also makes it difficult for the employees left behind to be successful with each departure. At a certain point of turnover, it is no longer the qualified, passionate, staff *actually* being incompetent failures at PoP. It is toxic leadership and unrealistic expectations that dictate that employees give up all semblance of balance and take on multiple roles, without pay or support, in response to the departure of their fellow colleagues. It is beyond a "tough boss" and cannot be pinned on employees' inability to take feedback. It is destructive to morale, and therefore to the overall success of PoP. Consistently kind treatment and genuine appreciation toward employees matters more than bouts of compensation or apologies for "stress reactions". Perfection is not expected from PoP. But all employees should be able to feel safe in their workplace. Pockets of positivity, healthy sub-teams, glimpses of collaboration, connection, or positive reinforcement are nice and intermittent, but they are not a sustainable solution for remedying the overall toxic culture. All other efforts are futile when the leadership team chooses to fiercely protect one leader who consistently demeans staff through written word and meetings, gaslights and verbally abuses employees, and speaks poorly and harshly about donors and other employees to select staff. Fierce protection of an individual who encourages, fosters, and models a toxic workplace culture is putting the health, well-being, and success of all other employees at risk. The protection of one compromises the safety of all. 0.0 0.0 1.0 1.0 1.0 1.0 3.0 1.0 Jan 28th, 2021 12:45AM Mar 19th, 2021 08:03PM Pencils of Promise
