In terms of digital agencies, Phase2 is an incredibly unique place (in a good way!). The biggest difference is the company's approach to employee experience: immediately from onboarding, new team members are brought into the culture and there is a huge amount of intentionality applied to making sure the first 90 days go smoothly. Additionally, the various benefits and initiatives that fall under EX are competitive with much larger companies. If you've worked elsewhere, it's something that become clear fairly immediately as you join Phase2.
The company has a Leadership Team that genuinely listens to the feedback it receives and provides transparency into the business via quarterly All Company Meetings where different metrics are presented. I've been impressed with the CEO's willingness to answer questions from all corners and not shy away from hard conversations.
Phase2 also really understands remote work and how to ensure that a sense of culture still resonates across different timezones. I can honestly say this is a company that hires as much for performance as much as culture fit. No jerks allowed.

Phase2 has a very big emphasis on collaboration as part of its culture and this can sometimes leads to inaction due to differing opinions/ideas. If you're a person who doesn't like working to get buy-in or consensus from co-workers, you will probably get frustrated.

I worked at Phase2 for over 7 years and I was very sad to leave. I loved my time there and I grew so much.
- The average smartness level at Phase2 is high and low performers don't last long
- The Guild system gives people a lot of freedom to pursue their interests and interact with people outside of their project/practice
- There's a lot of freedom to do what you think needs to be done for the company as a whole as long as it doesn't harm your project(s)
- Truly a remote first company. Very strong remote culture. People have a lot of fun together despite not being in the same building.
- C-level folks are passionate and empathetic, and generally have a great reputation among employees
- High transparency with what's happening at the exec level, including quarterly all hands meetings complete with financial reporting and various business updates
- Good work/life balance. People often take flex time, involuntary overtime is rare, parents are not hidden and shamed for parenting, etc.

- If you aren't interested in Drupal then it's tough to avoid. Phase2 isn't a "Drupal shop" but most projects still involve Drupal in some form
- Phase2 managers typically aren't actually on projects with the people they manage (which makes sense because it's an agency and projects come and go) so a manager's ability to provide constant feedback is crippled.
- Management is a side task for Phase2 managers. They are all focused on their own projects as their first priority, rather than being dedicated managers. This can sometimes lead to managerial relationships that aren't as valuable as they otherwise could be.
- Given the nature of client projects often being temporary, teams come and go, meaning that it's rare for a team to have the 1+ years together required to jell and become truly effective
- There's no real growth path for technical folks past the Senior Architect level, so people tend to rise to that level and stay there until they decide to leave the company
