Phenomblue is on the forefront of what agencies are today and will become. The team here excels at understanding its clients' businesses, which help it execute creative tactics that actually create results. The work itself is some of the best I've seen. Having worked in digital agencies for the last 8 years, I'm always impressed by the caliber of work our practice groups put forth.
Phenom also offers a flexible work schedule, which is a welcome benefit to many of us in the industry who are getting older and starting families.
The office itself is a great place to work if you don't mind open-office environments.

Phenom is a fast-moving company that changes the rules often. If you're uncomfortable with a fluid work environment, this might not be the place for you.
Phenom requires all of its team members to be able to think strategically, which might be a change for people in traditional creative roles. If you're uncomfortable or unfamiliar with leading strategy, you may struggle here (but will never be on an island with that struggle!).
Communication could be improved. While we have great co-working tools, when there are shifts in company vision, staff roles or the org chart itself, it would be nice if changes were addressed in person to help support the team, address questions and preserve the culture that people have historically enjoyed.
Lastly, benefits could be greatly improved and are below par compared to some of the bigger shops in town. This might not be an issue if you can save for retirement separately and participate in a partner's heath insurance.

Awesome experience while it lasted

First off, the company has a stellar reputation. Check out the leadership and their reviews by real people on LinkedIn as opposed to the "anonymous" past employees on this site. I was hired and worked directly for the CEO out the LA office. Starting a satellite office is tough and unfortunately there were some that were not up to the task of growth set out by the company (including myself) and we were let go when the company downsized LA. Company spared no expense to try and make the LA office successful. Brand is awesome and they have a great rep in the industry for being a down to earth transparent company with a track record of success. Flat org structure that encouraged the best idea won sort of mentality. Really lived their values and you felt it with each engagement. One of those places you know is better than most, but you're always trying to pick apart to make better. Good clear vision from mgmt. I really enjoyed my time at Phenomblue and working there and the experiences I had created tons of opportunities for me since.

The office in LA was small and start-up feeling which made for a different feel from Omaha (headquarters) that made process between the offices tough sometimes. Company took too long to put management from Omaha onsite which meant that there were a few hires that were not A players that managed to sneak in and hang around. I guess the biggest con was the downsizing, though we all were compensated generously when we left.

The co-workers are amazing, the work is compelling, and the benefits are competitive. It's a brand new office with an energetic and open environment, flexible hours, and an open vacation policy.
|
There were missteps in company direction with a subsequent lull in prospects, and a variety of drastic fixes - which put the company back on track. The recovery period has been rough, but ultimately it has been handled gracefully with utmost respect and accommodation paid to employees.

Senior management trusts employees all around - never micromanaging, but providing guidance when necessary and inspiring employees to have confidence in themselves and within their area of expertise. Encouraged to act, trust gut, etc. which is important within a fast-paced agency environment. Benefits like core hours and no time off policy further instill this agency tenet. Also, co-workers are the best you'll ever find! Makes it the best work/life balance I've ever seen.
