My time at Picarro has been the most rewarding and enjoyable of my career. It's a pleasure to work somewhere where the products--and our efforts to sell and support them--have observable positive effects on the world. This ranges from enabling fenceline monitoring of hazardous air pollutants, to improving the efficiency of pharmaceutical lines that produce critical therapeutics, to saving lives by identifying leaks in natural gas infrastructure, to quantifying and attributing carbon emissions that contribute to climate change. Picarro has set its sights on solving some of the most intractable problems of our day, and I'm proud to work for such a company.
Much of the credit for this goes to senior leadership's vision, but I want to also give some well-deserved credit to the HR department, who have sought to keep employees happy and engaged. This includes fitness challenges, thoughtful and fun holiday parties, frequent satisfaction surveys, and great food choices for meals.
COVID posed a significant challenge for Picarro's continuing success. I was happy to see that management developed early, stringent guidelines on travel, shifts, social distancing, and testing that have protected the Picarro workforce. This sort of proactive approach is emblematic of a company that values its employees.
Fundamentally, enjoying working for any company depends upon the people who you interact with each day. Over the last few years, Picarro has chosen some really fantastic people to run key parts of the business, and they have chosen excellent teams to work with them.

Cost of living in Silicon Valley is high. Picarro has gone to great lengths to make remote work viable for those who don't have to be on site.

This is a personally fulfilling work environment with dedicated people working to build a world class business. It's gratifying to see the research efforts that result from scientists deploying our instruments in new environments, and improved safety from energy companies using our technology on their pipelines. We have great relationships with our customers, and the enthusiasm they show for our technology is infectious (search "italgas piccaro" on twitter). Overall almost everyone at Picarro has a very positive attitude and is eager to get things done with the limited resources you'd find in a smaller company. We have spent the last year on renewed quality initiatives, improving internal product development processes and communications both internally and externally. Management is constantly going the extra step to do things ethically and exceed customer expectations. If you are considering coming to work here, note that many negative reviews were written years ago and things really are changing for the better. It's exciting to be a part of that change.

As with any business, you will find small errors that were overlooked years ago and you wonder, "How did this go so long without being noticed?" There are occasionally instances where you wonder, "Whose job is it to fix this?", and you realize it is now your job to fix it. If you are used to narrow job descriptions and well-defined roles in a large company, you may find some of the flexibility and fast paced change unnerving. But if you approach problems with an open mind and open communication, you'll figure it out.

Continue with the open communication with the whole company. Internal L&L's with various departments reporting across verticals are so valuable to get a larger view of the whole company. Continue the regular CEO all-hands meetings and continue to provide a clear sense of direction (even if it should change suddenly). These go a long way towards keeping morale high and reducing stove piping. There are dedicated people working in engineering, sales, and marketing across all verticals who like to be acknowledged, and these initiatives help keep them together.

Tide is shifting

Very smart people. Employees care about the environment and customers. Benefits are good and nice work/life balance. While not perfect, the company is making efforts to change for the better. Got rid of some really bad senior managers who were toxic to our environment. Good hire with the Quality person. Bout time execs/management are listening to us. Have to see if it sticks tho.

Wish strategy was clearer and need to improve communications. Tough products to make! Love the technology but PITA to produce! Some folks are resistant to change and that's not good. Wish my commute were shorter too.

The data analytics team is excellent and doing interesting projects

The direction for gas industry seems promising. The data analytics management is awesome, and I pretty much like the team collaboration atmosphere between the data team, software engineering team as well as product and market team. The colleagues are all nice.
You will have interesting projects and chance to have interaction with utility customers. You will be working on bringing cool products to help customers and the clouds.
There are a lot of smart and humble people in the company. The company offers weekly bootcamp and yoga classes, and ping pong club.

In my opinion, if the company can offer more and better lunch, it would be great.
