They are open to new ideas, allow your creativity to shine and truly feel like a family I am happy to come to every day. If there is ever an issue or question, the whole team is happy to help give suggestions, brainstorm, or just listen. They are organized, respectful, have open communication and the benefits are good. Not any cons I can think of! Great work life balance. I want to start off by saying that I genuinely enjoyed my time at Pierce Mattie. At it's peak, it was an incredibly creative shop with boasted an impressive client roster and an even more impressive group of young publicists. However, their talent is hidden under an absurd amount of unnecessary client work that the two managing partners deem necessary. The senior staff is seasoned and talented.However, it is common that the much of the day to day work is pawned off to the mid and junior level staff. Great for the publicists who have been in the industry for a long time and have worked their way out of tedious tasks, like inventories and reports, but proves to be difficult for the younger staff to complete tasks in an efficient and timely manner. Additionally, the partners expect their employees to deliver the sun, moon and stars for clients, however, almost seem annoyed when you deliver. It was not uncommon to be told that you were over and under servicing the same client, usually in the same week. While the AAEs, AEs, SAEs, and even AS's are working diligently all day, writing press releases, pitching, monitoring placements, etc the partners are sitting in closed door meetings, making excel sheets monitoring the teams work, and then make you sit in long and sometimes worthless meetings to discuss how much work you have to do. I can't say that I didn't enjoy my time at PMC or that I didn't grow light years as a publicist. They definitely employ the sink or swim method, and the staff was always helpful and really some terrific teachers. Mainly, the issue with the agency is the partners. This is not to say that they aren't successful or talented, however, they are too focused on irrelevant nonsense and consistently pull their very talented staff away from the work that is the most important. They buy their employees lunch a lot, hours aren't awful, good location The good reviews written for this company are 100% false and were written by upper management - I know this for a fact! Just look at the response the company gave to one of the bad ones - if that doesn't scream absurdity, unprofessionalism and crazy then I don't know what does. That right there should be your hint to stay away. In their words, now the facts - If you want to actually do/learn real PR, this isn't the right place to be. The president and his senior staff do not have PR backgrounds therefore they don't know the ins and outs of how this industry actually works. This plays into why hours aren't too bad because the day to day is just so slow and anyone who works for a respectable agency knows that that isn't very common. Upper management is beyond lazy, unprofessional, rude and psychotic to say the least. I've worked at numerous agencies and this was the worst turnover I had ever seen. The only reason upper management has stuck around is because they know they couldn’t get something anywhere else due to the lack of experience they have for their level. For a company that is already small to begin with, they have an entirely new staff every 6 months. The president is inappropriate beyond words. He will talk to you about things an owner of a company never should all while telling beyond fabricated lies. Literally everything out of his mouth was a lie (including the "british" accent he talked with – I actually had clients flat out ask me where the accent came from because a year before he didn’t have one). Upper management gets their kicks by screaming about nothing all day long just so they can feel superior. Clients are subpar, this company will take on any brand because they're that desperate. Most are startups that don't have it together on their end and the work you do for them is bare minimum anyway. I’ve never done so little pitching in my life. Strategies make no sense and some events were just embarrassing. The president will claim he knows editors - he knows no one. They monitor every thing you do, including your personal items. They have ways of accessing every single thing you do on your computer, email and even your personal cell phone. They block every website manageable (social media sites, gmail, etc). My phone somehow reset itself when I left the company and my linked in was also somehow magically connected to my work email which I never set up myself. The president claims he worked for the government in the past (just one of the trillions of pathological lies he will tell) so maybe that's how he learned how to do those things (although it's highly unlikely). If the president sees you eating something bad, like pizza or a muffin, he will fat shame you for it and not let it go. He will force his views on you regarding religion, language and anything under the sun. Moral of the story - be smart and trust the bad reviews and stay away. I saw people quit after 3-6 weeks because they were just that miserable off the bat. You can’t work somewhere where upper management is not in the right head space and they care more about treating employees like children than actually doing work. There is an emphasis on personal life and time away from work with multiple extra vacation days and holidays allotted to employees and flexibility with scheduling. We have excellent benefits, competitive salaries and a retirement program option as well. There is also a structure in place and programs available for employees that allow them to provide the best work possible for our clients in an efficient manner. The clients receive uniformly excellent consistent service and we have received numerous positive reviews from clients who continue to remain and renew contracts with us year after year. We are probably more successful now than we have ever been and continue to sign new clients regularly. I continue to learn from the entire executive team including the president, who is extremely knowledgeable and a true asset to the agency. They care about the clients, staff and continue to expand on services and drive results. We have several employees who have stayed for 5+ years and also several who have returned two and even three times. Overall, PMC is a great place to work where you will gain experience and enjoy working with your clients and coworkers. An en excellent work/life balance, smart and accessible executive team and an equally amazing client roster. Location is ideal for all commuting purposes, the office is clean, organized and has every tool needed to excel in the PR industry. I've spent more than five years in total in this agency and can honestly say this is by far the best work environment. Collaborative teamwork, welcomes new ideas, allows teams to take initiative and fosters great relationships with past and present employees with a high return rate and even higher retaining rate with more than half the employees here for well over 5-8 years! Pierce Mattie Communications has a positive energy (partly due to the calming spa environment within the office) and team building activities that make us more than a team...a family. I started at Pierce Mattie quite a few years ago. Back when the agency boasted a positive, fun and coveted work environment, fully staffed by a dominating roster of talented publicists who's effective efforts positioned PMC as a leading agency inthe beauty industry, garnering top tier media results for noteworthy clients. These were the days when the president eloquently spoke sans a British accent and cared more about delivering results to his clients than being a pathological liar and stirring up drama amongst his employees. Since then, the company's pristine retention rate has crumbled to next to nothing, and many clients and actively pitching publicists (100% to be exact) alike have come and gone. With an entirely new team on roster, the turnover continues to occur. The significant lack of seasoned and knowledgeable senior staff combined with the Senior staff's insulting, degrading and drama-envoking tendencies is what will ultimately lead to this agency's demise. Since the glory days, the president consistently exudes behavior that resembles that of a sociopath including, developing an English accent, bullying and verbally abusing his employees like a mean teenage girl, claiming to work for the FBI, being enrolled at Oxford, being an award-winning author, among other significantly fabricated stories - not only about himself, but of his employees as well. Employees can expect to work upwards of 12 hour days while still not being able to allot the appropriate amount of attention to your clients due to the company being extremely understaffed. There is no real HR department and any of your issues or concerns will go unheard, so you will have to just grin and bare it. The computer screens are smaller than a laptop and the computer itself is probably as old as you are. Oh, there is one perk. Since the COO doesn't like to actually work, you get a lot of bogus holidays off. Not to worry though, you'll still be expected to deliver on unrealistic deadlines and will wish you had just came into the office. Moral of the story is: unless you want to be overworked, probably underpaid, insulted, bullied and in a work environment filled with drama and negativity, run as far as you can. VERY understanding when life gets messy (sickness, family issues, etc.). Size of the company is pretty small. I had the pleasure of working at Pierce Mattie Communications for several exhilarating years. The work environment is a top factor that makes the agency extremely unique. The positive, friendly and relaxed atmosphere stimulated me to achieve on-going success every day. It is a hands-on work place which encourages endless learning and thinking amongst yourself and team members. The support system of the team is incredible - from the publicists and executive management team, everyone wants their employees to do well and is always willing to help. The atmosphere, the people, the location - just great! Great location - midtown New York City. Very easy going office environment. Young, energetic staff, which is a blast to work with. Great benefits package, amazing holidays schedule and other perks like free lunches. Extremely low turnover. Knowledge and skills are expected to get your job done. Won't be able to wing it and learn as you go.
