Second supervisor 6 months later, not so great. Given choices to determine hiring and terminating associates. Once original hiring area manager left it was obvious that the days of many associates was numbered. When I was working they had a good health care plan and bonus plan. I hear this is not the case any longer though. Asked for a pay raise after a male colleague at smaller hotel, in a smaller town was hired at 7k more a year then what I was making after 6 years with the company. Consistent 5% increases year over year due to excellent performance, recruited for, trained and managed our manager in training program, was a new GM trainer and a train the trainer, exceptionally high GSS with no reno done on hotel in over 8 years. Not only did it take me whispering EECO claim of gender inequality to get someone to finally listen when I asked for raise to match the buffoon who walked off the job after 3 months but but then I was told A. I should have negotiated my starting wage ( I did and I they only met me in the middle) B. I was told the taxes were higher in state (right over the border) then mine, mind you my hotel had the name of a major city in the title so no I don't think so, C. I had an AGM and he didn't, I worked without an AGM for 4 years until I got one and it was only because I was training for the company so much. Begrudging they company agreed to only match this persons salary and no more. I was humiliated after years of hard work and going the extra mile. Also no renovation but expected us to meet new brand guidelines when our hotel was outdated by several years but they wasn't an excuse enough to not meeting the guidelines. Asking for rate increases for accounts YOY when they weren't putting money back into our hotels for the guest made it difficult to retain accounts. Bonus program use to be great but they changed it every year making it hard and harder again putting no money back into the properties to help management. -1.0 NEGATIVE -1.0 DISAPPROVE 6.0 2.0 2.0 2.0 3.0 1.0 1.0 388807 Open Simple: Put money and training in to your employees and guests (hotels) to retain. Also treat your hard working and loyal employees BETTER! Leaving was the best thing I ever did for my health and sanity. The one that I worked on in particular was very well taken care of and it was obvious that the owners invested a lot of money into it. Pay wasn't great, and with the exception of the corporate office, the on-site upper management was lousy. They had a good vision but that was it. Never followed through with that vision! A culture was trying to be created at property level but when you have a regional that comes in and brings random women with him it leads other staff members to think differently about the company. Pillar is college-student friendly. They have always been flexible with my school schedule. I have been with Pillar for almost three years now. All of the managers I have encountered have been more than willing to train me in all departments of the hotel. Corporate manager are not out of reach. They are easily accessible and always willing to help. Pillar is also very big on in-house promotions. My only con with Pillar would be property level training. Pillar Hotels is a family. From the top down and bottom up, everyone with the company is amazing! There is a tremendous amount of support from everyone and no one slacks! The team here is one of the best I've ever worked with out of the 4 Hospitality Management Companies and 5 hotels I've worked at since I got into this business. The opportunities they offer. The culture that they offer makes you feel like you are apart of an elite group I love it. The benefits. And the growth is an option for anyone of the staff members if they work hard for it.
