For all of the stories you love, there's a ton of rewritten press releases. -Very bottom heavy newsroom, which makes moving up very difficult. 0.0 3.0 1.0 3.0 3.0 2.0 3.0 386123 Open 0.0 [] REGULAR No No 4.0 Apr 2nd, 2021 07:40PM Apr 2nd, 2021 07:40PM Politico Consumer Services Media

Great first job out of college to get acquainted to politics with a great group of people (young start up energy, I actually liked the people!) and it's a respected entity within D.C. to gain respect. This is not really a con, but being a part of the selling process (of news products) is honestly the full shop if you're not in editorial. There is also not a defined promotional structure which can be challenging, every department is kind of own their own system. 1.0 POSITIVE 0.0 NEUTRAL 1.0 APPROVE 0.0 5.0 5.0 5.0 1.0 5.0 5.0 386123 Open 0.0 [] REGULAR No No 2.0 Apr 2nd, 2021 07:40PM Apr 2nd, 2021 07:40PM Politico Consumer Services Media

private:politico https://www.glassdoor.com?employer_id=386123 Feb 11th, 2021 12:00AM Open Open Politico Business Development Associate Great company, toxic work culture - The POLITICO brand is extremely powerful and well known around DC. This can be helpful when you're trying to get connected or looking for another job. - Lots of free snacks - Company events are awesome and fun. They are a great way to get to know your colleagues and develop friendships - The sales team management generally has a good open door policy: they encourage lower level sales associates to pitch new ideas and execute on them. - POLITICO Pro sales has an absolutely toxic work culture: goals are aggressively high and the level of stress that comes with that can be debilitating to your mental health. However, it is important to note that sales jobs inherently come with a level of urgency and stress. But there is no strategically effective way to avoid the very long hours you need to put in on a daily basis (sometimes even weekends) to simply meet your sales goals. Worst of all, if you begin to struggle hitting quarterly benchmarks, your managers will become overbearing micromanagers or ghosts who only check in with you once every week. The pressure is on the sales associates to bring the opportunities, AE's are simply closers who pass along the pressure coming from the top of the management chain. If you cannot handle high-pressure work on a daily, weekly, monthly, and quarterly basis, this job is simply not for you, no matter how prestigious the brand is. - The pay is okay, but not worth the amount of effort you put in as a BDA. They did make changes to be more pay competitive, but BDAs again are the foot soldiers who do the grunt work and don't reap enough of the rewards. POLITICO Pro sales tries to make up for this by allowing you to continuously exceed your goals, which means higher bonuses, contingent that you exceed an ambitiously high goal in the first place. - The market for government affairs policy news is overly saturated with competitors. POLITICO has made efforts to push out new products and services. That is great. But the BDA sales associates should not feel confident that there will be as much growth as there was 3 years ago. Make a plan, set a timeline, get out. However, if your goal is to stick it out in Pro Sales and make a transition to another department, that is more strategic than putting yourself through torture with Pro Sales. - Arguably the worst part about POLITICO Pro sales is the clique culture: groups are tight with each other and it is unbelievably easy to spot them. POLITICO Pro sales does a fantastic job of making new associates feel welcomed on day one and during onboarding, but after you have completed your onboarding you are in the shark tank. It's important to highlight a second time that sales is an inherently competitive line of work. If you cannot handle a job that is designed to compete with a numerical goal, this job is not for you. Moreover, if you cannot handle being in a work environment that promotes competition, this job is really not for you. POLITICO Pro sales does not put people down when they compete against each other. For the most part, it's a friendly competitive environment on its surface. However, if your self-esteem cannot handle being at the bottom of the pack, you will feel the embarrassment that comes with that. POLITICO Pro sales upper management needs to do a better job of making everyone feel included and appreciated. The cliques make it feel like a bunch of high school students who take gossip too seriously. That doesn't quite match up with the prestige of the brand. -1.0 NEGATIVE 0.0 NEUTRAL 1.0 APPROVE 0.0 3.0 1.0 1.0 5.0 3.0 2.0 386123 Open 0.0 [] REGULAR No No 2.0 Apr 2nd, 2021 07:40PM Apr 2nd, 2021 07:40PM Politico Consumer Services Media
