I got to travel all over Oregon. They were cool about flex time. Unorganized chaos, no strong leadership with plans, high turn overs. Both in the warehouse and in the offices, everyone is great. Wonderful, fun co workers and they make the job a lot of fun. Additionally, it is a great business with mostly great products and people who really know the industry. If you work there you will learn a lot and really appreciate the world of specialty coffee. The company was started and tries to be focused on its environnmental impact and how it treats its growers and farmers. The top level makes it hard. The people in charge make it hard for managers to be productive and to treat their employees fairly. Almost any change is something that a manager has to really fight for. Additionally, they dont seem to see any value in giving their employees proper accolades or treating their requests and needs with enough value to show that they respect their opinions. After a time, it just gets exhausting and hard to deal with on a daily basis. Additionally, PRC started growing quickly and the top level refused to change the way operations worked. In that, they didnt want to instill proper procedures and policies. They prefered to stick with a 'case by case' basis with any issues or questions. This was also a really frustrating method as you never knew how a simple request might play out at any given time. Also- they never allow for snow days - more than one employee was in an accident or was under a great amount of stress trying to get to work when the entire city was essentially closed down due to a huge snowstorm. Also, their communication was spotty and inconsistent. A lot of times information would be sprung on people without proper information and it made office politics very confusing. Some of the more recent products are very much against the initial environmental focus and it feels like the company now cares more for profit than it does for being responsible and having integrity. -1.0 NEGATIVE -1.0 NEGATIVE 0.0 3.0 3.0 3.0 2.0 1.0 1.0 1289999 Open Standardize your practices, put policies in place that employees can use to follow and know how to proceed. Get someone in HR who really knows HR and would be a true advocate for the employees rather than you. Communicate better with your staff as a whole. It's a foot in the door to other coffee companies. The coffee industry itself is amazing... anywhere but here. Office is ran by bitter, nepotistic men. There are two camps of employees those who have been browbeaten and been there for years, and new hires. New hires are replaced every year or two. Management tells you during the interview process that you are required to be a self-starter, be "your own advocate", be proactive in communicating with management...what they mean - they will constantly give you too many tasks, and demand immediate results, while undermining/diminishing your efforts. Do not bother using numbers to argue back up how you've increased sales x number of %. Metrics only count against you. There is none of the camaraderie that used to exist at the founding of the company.
