They don't care about you, they care about numbers and profit and think they can do it better than you. The hours are long, the weather is harsh, and you get very little time to yourself. You deal with awful customers and nobody has your back when they lash out. A simple job is made complicated by the array of ridiculous and difficult rules set forth by corporate. The pay and ski pass benefits are why people continue to put up with it. But even then, it may not be worth it. Just remember you are replaceable and management knows that. So if you mess up once (however small) that's it. You might as well quit after that because they will always have the bar above where you are and will never relent. Copper has a lot of potential to be a great employer, unfortunately POWDR/Copper could care less. You are disposable. The manager in electrical maintenance was the laziest, self centered, hypocrite I've ever met. He worked at dish Network his entire career until the housing market collapsed than had his retired master electrician daddy write off electrical hours he never worked He will tell you to do things that will get you killed. If you like to change light bulbs as a journeyman electrician and listen to a guy who used to work as an “electrician” for Dish instead of running real jobs then this is for you. Low pay, about what most people make as a 2nd year apprentice. So right off, your working for an awesome ski resort. So right there is half the reason why you want to work for this company. You’re thinking “yeah! I’ll save that 1000+ dollars on a season pass, and I’ll get lots of discounts to get new gear and food and I’ll get to be up on the mountain!!!!” But only about half of that is true. Sure, you’ll have a pass. But you’ll rarely be able to use it unless you’re a ski instructor. Breaks are only an hour long for lunch and many times your shift is shorter depending on your assigned work are so you’ll have 30 min or less to eat and the. “Ski”. Some people manage it but it’s kinda a waste. The pay rate is down right poverty. You’ll not be buying anything from the gear shop cus you’ll be making minimum wage and have poor hours. After taxes you’re looking at still less then a decent paying part time job as a janitor at lower elevations. I worked in 2 departments at Bachelor, first in snow removal, then in security. Both areas only pays 13 an hour- which I shouldn’t say only- that was the 3rd highest paying jobs you could get besides groomers and then the bar tenders. They somehow get well over 17 an hour but require less training and responsibility compared to both snow removal ( using heavy equipment with only chains for added traction in zero vis conditions in a group) and in security( responsible for the WHOLE mountains infrastructures security. And issues required local law enforcement to be called and that was a 45 min wait for their help. Shifts only had one individual on staff to stop an issues that occurred to include but not limit- staff medical issues, break-ins, theft, vandalization(s), trespassing, shooters( both active shooters or target practice who tried to use the open facilities to discharge firearms) and each buildings on the reservations opening and closing. All for 13 an hour. Both shifts where at night. I was finally moved to a swing shift after personell change allowed to to demand the shift for requesting it never actually allowed me to move to a reasonable work hour. The employees where awesome to work with. You will quickly make fitness but many times there is no required back ground check so you will work with some shady individuals but they are usually pretty chill. Management is alright. They like to act like they really are interested in you and how you’re doing but as long as that means you keep making the company money and are able to work at a much lower wage then should be allowed. If you’re more interested in getting a season pass then being able to use it and being able to say “I work at MT WHEREVER then this is the place for you. Other wise just save your money from a local job and buy your pass. You’ll be able to use it then. Free season pass if you work at least 20 hours a week. LOW PAY. You had to watch your P's and Q's. You had to watch your back. The people were nice and easy to get along with, but there were days where there was a lot of drama and no one knew what was really going on.
