They ensure that benefits are available and affordable; they sponsor lunches/ snacks from time to time; and they recognize, respect, and reward honest work. I have never gotten a sense of "I'm more important than you" or office drama - everyone's just here to get the job done and done right. Not to say there aren't occasional personality conflicts, but it's never devolved into problems.
