Fast paced, room for growth

As much as I loved my job in the beginning, it really turned out to be like any other gas station retail job. When the pandemic first started, everyone was mostly careful and understanding of each other. At the end of the year, no one cared about distancing, respect for others, or taking precautions. Multiple cases of co workers getting tested for Covid, with no one to cover shifts, and the manager did not handle it well. Hours were cut drastically with no warning, yet no one wanted to cover anyone else's shifts. Lots of gossip between the older co workers, and a bit of bullying on the younger kids who were just starting to get into the work force.
On the flip side, you get a free piece of fruit with a paid lunch break (10-20 mins), lots of offers for advancement, a livable wage with higher positions, profit sharing, and you get opportunities to do ID checks. For the ID checks, you get paid mileage, hours worked at your regular pay, a paid lunch break, and no time limit.

Lifelong family in coworkers, forgettable upper management

Kwik Trip stole my heart when I started in 2018... best job I ever had. Now, new additions to the store operations have caused tension between everyone, not to mention change in management introduced me to the idea of actually dreading my job. A place I once loved to come to became so toxic that I had to move on. Miss the old days. The corporation heads do not care about anyone below them. All an act for sure about caring for “the people that take care of our guests” COVID really showed Kwik Trip’s true colors.

Fast paced is not the word, and controlled chaos is too subtle. The job requires a multitasking robot at a race car drivers speed.
|
A typical day is cashiering and book keeping at the same time, answering phones, taking complaints, fixing pumps or the car wash, cleaning bathrooms throughout the day, unloading the delivery truck, unloading and stocking the delivery items, taking inventory counts and reordering items, directing staff, making staff schedules, restaffing for call ins, taking care of emails, prepping for weekly meetings, checking data for sales and outputs, emptying garbages inside and out, taking food temperatures and recording results, emptying cash boxes, doing bank runs, doing gas price checks, checking in outside sales merchants and their inventory, and anything else that arises. The staff are hardworking great people. The work culture is competitive, with an unspoken hierarchy. The most enjoyable aspect of the job is accomplishing the unbelievable with the unreasonable and surviving it because the military has nothing on management in Kwik trip. I am proud of the accomplishments, but it is not sustainable. The best part is the prices and deals that everyone gets to enjoy from the public to the employees. They do have a very strict, quality controlled food product.The best Ive seen in that department.

Fast paced place to work
|
Always moving, very fast paced, and often don’t get time for break. Breaks are often interrupted when help is needed on the floor. Lots of drama at my store and management doesn’t do much to stop it. You’re either part of the “cool coworkers” clique or you’re not and nobody is willing to take your shift or help you out. Always scheduled when I am not available then they get upset with me. Pay is pretty good for a college student, and benefits are nice.

Management is hard to work with

Management is hard to work with. If you have scheduled doctors appointments during the work day it's really hit or miss if you get off or not. They don't care about conflicts between coworkers and they always tip toe around everything avoiding the issues. When management isn't there it's not bad and can be an okay work place. They do have 40% profit sharing but it's not always enough to make up for how you're treated.

Fun fast paced, but ready to work.

If you are stepping into a leadership role, you better be prepared to work. Nobody who applies for Kwik Trip should think "oh it's, just working at a gas station". NO. There is so much more that goes into the day to day operations. Customers can be horrible to you and as a Kwik Trip coworker, you're forced to take it. Listen, apologize, and make it right. It sets you up to be a punching bag for customers but as long as you're willing to work hard and move at a fast pace, you'll love your job. Once you reach FSL or ASL as a position you have pretty much signed your life away for 50-55 hours a week. The 40% profit-sharing bonus at Christmas every year is very nice, the downside is, it is used as a tool to get unhappy people to stay.
