Crate & Barrel was an enjoyable place to work at. The days are structured out well and management communicates clearly. Closing can get long sometimes, though we ran out of things to do. Some managers kept us in for a while.

M-f but you always work Saturday and if you take a day off you have to use sick time or vacation can’t go I unpaid. They won’t allow it
|
I believe this company needs help. Pay is horrible. Management expects so much but don’t understand the amount of work us employees do. Without us nothing will run. No appreciation for employees were just numbers no culture they love firing people for things they could have gotten a warning for. Other associates are down to earth. But upper management and leadership only care for themselves

Terrible work environment but overall great passionate people
|
This company stands out to me because the people who work for them have incredible longevity with the company and are very passionate about what they do, however I don't see any promotions happening, anytime a position opens up they look to hire externally, which is a shame. They also don't seem to have a culture that gives any room for mistakes and performance improvement. In a year I probably saw more than 10 employees in one location alone be let go for small and petty reasons which could have been easily resolved with performance reviews.
For a company of this size they are incredibly behind with their corporate and operational structure, offering outdated software and hardware and pitiful training, there isn't even a structured employee handbook.
They demand a lot, but offer very little; heed my warning.

Low pay, no real time off, wears you down

The positive part of working at Crate and Barrel was I developed my sales skills, but left due to horrid pay, no commissions and no work/life balance. Due to the company having a good reputation I thought that would translate to working there but not the case. Some managers are great, where others are not and nothing is down to try to fix it.

It use to be a fun remote job and turned into the worst job experience in last year. I was here 4 years and witnessed heartless mass lay offs, outsourcing to pay lower wage for customer care agents. It’s become all about numbers, supervisors are extreme micromanagers. Actual managers are never present, not sure what they do here. While other agents constantly are rude and disgruntled often talking down to each other like they are managers. Customers are always angry because they pay top dollar for product that will be damaged numerous times and/or delayed for a year or more. Make it make sense! Everyone else in the top treats us less than human. Worst job I have ever had.

Great way to get into the industry then get out.
|
This is a good place to start your career with little to no experience, but don't expect it to be a spot where you'll advance in the company. They rarely hire assistants to become full-time, and there is a meager set pay rate for an SSTA or Freelancer no matter your experience or time working for the company. There have been layoffs/firings and changes that have been happening and it's only made things worse. Corporate doesn't seem to care and management tends to brush problems under the rug instead of fixing them or keeping the team happy. It's depressing to feel so disposable in a creative environment.

So many hard to use systems, so much information and not enough time to ramble through it all to find what you need, very annoying. Work from home was ok but kinda impossible if you have little ones no matter the headset. Overall it was a good kinda balance.
