There was little care or respect for writers and content creators. People were let go with little sympathy and bad severance packages (if they were lucky enough to receive one). No real plans from leadership on how to grow successful brands—we watched them mismanage SPIN into the ground. The edit/photo/video teams have a lot of heart. HR strives to create morale-boosting activities. Some wonderful intelligent people here. Sales is set up like Lord of the Flies. Budgetary and staffing decisions feel amateurish and not in the best interest of the people actually getting the work done, rather in the self-interest of the management. Access to many powerful people if you make the effort. There are always successful, major activations and stories and events going on, which is good. Too much of a behemoth, but too robotic. Soulless, even. Easy to feel disconnected from the people around you, especially if coming in as an acquired brand. If you're applying to work at Billboard, make sure you're a white straight man. They may tout a Women in Music event every year, but they consisently promote and hire straight, white men to editorial positions above qualified, hardworking women and minorities. There's been an exodus of female editors after the latest round of reshuffling. They are very forward thinking with digital content, especially when it comes to video, and there is a lot of room to try new things in those areas. Since Janice Min left her editorial post, the quality of editorial content has plunged, and a lot of talented editors have either left or been fired. That, coupled with some questionable marketing of the brands gives the company a less optimistic outlook than it had a year ago. Each publisher came onboard with a different agenda and action plan.
