private:qualitylogic-2 https://www.glassdoor.com?employer_id=594002 Jan 26th, 2021 12:00AM Open Open QualityLogic Test Technician Boise, ID Best in the Treasure Valley Working at QL has been a great experience. The environment is fairly relaxed and my co-workers a great bunch of folks to get along with. Work attire is pretty casual most of the time, which is great since I don't like wearing suits unless I absolutely have to. The company has been very accommodating with working-from-home during the pandemic. The transition was pretty smooth and management has been regularly available to anyone who had questions or needed help. Depending on the project, there can be quite a lot of down time where there isn't much to do during the day. This can sometimes be followed by a few days of "we need this done, asap" from the client. However, that's more on the client's side than having to do with QL specifically. The main testing lab at the office is a wide open area with several desks and tables placed side by side. This can get noisy from time to time depending on active projects and the time of day. For those who prefer more closed and private spaces, this is something to consider. However, there are smaller side rooms that can be used for smaller projects and the secondary lab does have cubicles for engineering projects. 1.0 POSITIVE 1.0 POSITIVE 1.0 APPROVE 0.0 5.0 5.0 5.0 4.0 5.0 5.0 594002 Open I can't think of anything in particular for the management at this time. 0.0 [{"countHelpful": 0, "languageId": "eng", "userJobTitle": null, "__typename": "EmployerResponse", "originalLanguageId": null, "id": 2990870, "responseDateTime": "2021-02-01T11:59:43.08", "translationMethod": null, "response": "Thanks for the review about working as a test tech with our team in Boise! private:qualitylogic-2 https://www.glassdoor.com?employer_id=594002 Dec 21st, 2019 12:00AM Open Open QualityLogic Test Technician Boise, ID It was a decent place to work. Most of the people there are cool to work with and the environment is fairly laid back, although towards the end they got more and more strict which was kind of stressful. Overall its a good company and for the most part they are understanding when it comes to life issues. I enjoyed my time there and id still be working there if it weren't for a lay off. But compared to all the other jobs I've had, this has been the best one yet! Again, overall they're a good company and is a good place to work. Its low stress and you learn some great skills Despite giving the company four stars, there are still some cons, some small and some rather bothersome. 1. There isn't much room for growth. Every now and then a supervisor position will open up, but to me they liked to choose favorites rather than the person that deserved it. If you are a tester and don't have any programming skills, you will be stuck making $12 an hour with no raises or anything aside from quarterly bonuses. There are people that have worked there for5 or 6 years that still make $12. The best mobile tester there makes the same amount as the worst tester there and that's just wrong imo. 2. Management. Your direct supervisors are right there with you and understand how it is on the floor which is good, however the upper management is pretty out of the loop on how things work and don't really try to understand it from a testers point of view. Employee feedback is thrown out the window and seen as complaining rather than valid concerns. 3. Employee treatment and feedback. Every concern a tester throws out is seen as a complaint and shot down every time even though the concerns are valid and would actually help the company. For example, as testers we have to test everything based on what the test case writers write. Towards the end almost 80% of test cases written were incorrect and needing editing. Various testers brought this issue up because it made our jobs harder and every time it was shot down. The reason this is a real issue is because testing needs to be accurate, so when a test case is written incorrectly, its tested incorrectly. Often times, testers or even sups won't know if a test case is incorrect so we would have to search for the ticket saying if its correct or not. That usually took around 20 minutes, just for one test case block. Now 20 minutes may not seem like a long time but when its 80% of the test cases you are searching for tickets more than actually testing. Not only that but for every wrong test case, the tester has to write a test case edit in a separate sheet, but the edits are never checked and never edited. There were test edits that were sitting in there for a year and a half and never edited on the testing sheet, meaning those test cases were wrong for over a year and each time we would have to put in an edit, so there were sometimes 50 plus of the same test edits that never got resolved. That's not efficient at all. Test case writers are also supposed to put the corresponding ticket next to the test case blocks and that never happened. Sometimes test cases were written by obviously outdated tickets, but it was like the test case writers didnt care or their manager didn't care. So knowing all that, its easy to make a mistake when testing and when there is a mistake, the testers are the ones that take the blame no matter what. It almost felt like the test case writers weren't held to the same standards the testers were. That's a huge con imo. Efficiency isn't very good there. 1.0 POSITIVE 1.0 POSITIVE 1.0 APPROVE 0.0 4.0 4.0 5.0 2.0 4.0 2.0 594002 Open I suggested this when I worked there and it got shot down yet I, plus many others, were just trying to help the company. You need to listen to your employees more. You need to hear feedback. Us testers are in the trenches, we know more about what goes on out on the floor than really anyone else because we do the work everyday. It would be pretty smart if there was a way to submit feedback as an employee. Make some anonymous feedback system or something and check it every week or month and see what the concerns of your employees are. Employee happiness is key to a successful business. We shouldn't have had to fix the mistakes of others and take the blame when something goes wrong. I had a lot of respect for all of you Joe, Paul, and Nels but it felt as if us testers, or at least some of us, weren't taken seriously at all. I wasn't the best employee ill admit, but I was far from the worse. Again you guys only strictly looked at numbers but were oblivious to how some people really were on the floor and didn't take in account everything that could be affecting those numbers. My advice is just to listen to your employees more, hold EVERYONE to the same standards, reward those who do good, and maybe once a month or something the higher ups should be on the floor testing just so they are up to date with everything and can also experience the pros and cons up front. I guarantee if the higher ups saw how many test cases were wrong, something would have been done. Behind a cozy office door things may seem fine when in reality there are various issues that could be improved upon if you took the time to experience it or listen to your employees that experience it everyday. Your review touches on many aspects of work-life at QualityLogic. We work hard to provide a fairly relaxed environment where many can grow and excel in their careers. QualityLogic actually has a near perfect record for promoting from within across the entire company. In fact, the entire testing services group of managers and leads started in lower positions and have been promoted into their current positions. Some of them started in Test Tech positions just like you, so they intuitively understand the day to day issues our teams face. Promoting from within the organization has always been a cornerstone ethic within the company and provides a strong growth path for all employees that demonstrate the ability and express the desire to progress in their careers. \n\nIt\u2019s unfortunate that you did not feel heard for your suggestions and did not take the initiative to escalate your concerns while you were working on our team. All managers have an open-door policy and would have been happy to listen to your concerns and suggestions. These policies have resulted in many suggestions and improvements being implemented across the organization. \n\nWe are aware that there have been circumstances with particular customers where their test cases are not maintained as we would prefer to see them. Had you expressed these concerns to your manager, they would have explained that this is always a balance for where a particular customer wants to focus their testing budget, and while we can sometimes influence the situation, it is always the customer\u2019s decision.\n\nWe encourage and expect all team members to bring their very best to the game each and every day, and we support the team with the tools and training to get it done.
