R&R is family
|
|
Leadership has a vested interest in taking care of its employees through employee programs, benefits and the incredible talents it recruits and retains.
|
Workload can be heavy, but that’s not unlike any other agency. It ebbs and flows and believe most have a healthy work-life balance.

Losing Its Soul
|
|
- Decent benefits package (outside of salary)
- Job security - You are unlikely to get fired or let go (unless it is something major)
- You'll make some close friends
- There are plenty of smart and creative people across the agency
- Some of the Partners really care about employee well-being outside of work
- If you are junior-level, you will get opportunities that you wouldn't get at another agency in the same position
- Leadership is much more transparent about operating financials than most other agencies.
- They actively encourage employees to contribute to their communities through Paid Volunteer Time Off, donation matching and ample pro-bono work for non-profits.
- For the most part, you'll enjoy your time at R&R and the people you work with.
|
- Salary is not competitive. Until you get another offer or plan on leaving, then the money magically appears.
- Job security - People that shouldn't be there... are still there.
- There is definitely a history of favoritism, nepotism and the "in-crowd" or "boy club" that makes it hard for others to stand out
- Bullying and microaggressions frequently happen, but double standards applied across the agency means this is mostly ignored and rarely addressed.
- If you weren't part of the "Prague team" or on the Las Vegas account, you likely won't see your work publicly recognized.
- The past couple of years there has been no clear vision for the agency from leadership.
- There is always this next big thing or new account that is going to save the agency, but then never happens. A lot of hype with no results.
- Each office and department has its own "micro-culture". Your experience at R&R is often dictated by what team or location you are at.
- Timesheets will rule your world, with poor scoping causing a lot of problems when it comes to delivering valuable work.
- No accountability

Forget the t-shirts, booze-filled parties and flashy "rebrandings". Employees don't need another tagline or motto. What we actually need is a clear vision with a direct action plan in how everyone contributes to that vision. Then, hold employees and leadership equally accountable to that vision. You've got some incredibly smart people at your agency. They just need to know what direction to go as a team instead of everyone pulling in different directions.

Like a family: the Corleones.
|
|
- You will meet some of the most talented, inspiring, creative coworkers you've ever encountered. You will become genuine friends with these people and keep in touch long after you've both escaped.
|
- "Don't ever take sides with anyone against the family." Because if you do, you're out. They want "yes men" who will blindly support leadership's half-cocked strategies.
- R&R does an excellent job of making your first 18 months seem magical, with seemingly progressive policies and good perks. (Just take a look at how many positive reviews are from employees under 18 months' longevity.) After 18 months, you've experienced so much gaslighting that you'll sacrifice everything else in your life just to get a pat on the head from a partner.
- The only way to advance is to work until your health suffers. In my 10 years at R&R, I saw the stress literally make people ill. I saw people lose so much weight they became gaunt, people developed insomnia, one coworker was recovering from pneumonia and on oxygen per doctor's orders but was still made to attend a department retreat, and one woman developed so much anxiety, she started pulling out her own hair. Leaders of departments routinely text and call their employees past 9:00 pm and send emails from midnight - 3:00 am. Any kind of boundary setting is impossible.
- Nepotism is absolutely rampant. This agency is run like a fraternity - you're either in the "cool kids" club or you're not. Some employees play solitaire all day, but have been kept for 20+ years because they are "sacred cows" (HR's words).
- Tokenism - This agency is very politically savvy. In the last couple of years, they've skillfully acquired more diversity just for diversity's sake. They market inclusivity but it's not genuine behind closed doors.
- They're unwilling to be transparent about salaries which has led to massive discrepancies in pay.
- Leadership routinely gets hoodwinked by consultants or high-level new business hires. These people are brought in as saviors to the agency, then are quietly shown out less than a year later, leaving a trail of destruction in their wake.
- The three rational, ethical partners all started their retirement process a couple years ago. Since then, the morale at this agency has spiraled downward, with no moral compass remaining.
- Big fish in the very small, stagnant pond of Las Vegas. No other agency in the region is R&R's size, so some clients stay by default, even if they're ultimately unhappy with the work.

When respected, intelligent, loyal, downstairs employees start "lashing out" or "acting up," listen to them and take action. Don't punish them for trying to make you aware of problems.

Great stepping stone

|
Dip your toes in really cool work for really cool clients. Great people.
|
The (ridiculously) low pay and rampant nepotism will drive you out. They also definitely make the interns write positive Glassdoor reviews. :\

A Great Place to Work
|
|
Great company to work for. They really care about their employees and the people were great to work with. They were very flexible and there was always room to grow.
|
The only con was the pandemic which caused many job losses that the company did not want to have.
