Good while it lasted

I enjoyed my time as a Racker. I got hired as a customer support representative and had good training from the start. My managers were always clear on what was expected of me and their criticism was always constructive and helped me in my position. We also had dedicated "Rackers time" set aside each week for us to focus on studying for IT certifications to later move up within the company which I thought was really neat. I loved my time at Rackspace and had hoped for a long term career and to move up once I had more certifications under my belt. Unfortunately, a little over a year of me starting, my entire department was outsourced overseas. I warn newcomers to already have some good IT certifications under their belt because if you are a U.S based Rackspace employee, there is a strong chance that your job might be sent overseas at some point.

Great people but poor leadership for too long
|
Rackspace has wonderful dedicated employees, but upper management has all but ruined the company. Poorly thought out reorgs followed by customers fleeing the company has done a lot of long term damage. The mechanics of the business have been ignored too long and resolving simple issues like an incorrect invoice take far too long. I hope Rackspace leadership can turn things around, but at this point it doesn't look like it.
