private:raizlabs https://www.glassdoor.com?employer_id=664288 Apr 19th, 2017 12:00AM Open Open Raizlabs Innovative, team oriented company Great people, interesting projects, fun work environment. Occasionally you may be on a project that isn't your favorite but this is a plus in a way too because management will move you off a project if you are unhappy with it or on it for too long. At a single product company, like my last job, you could be stuck for years so I prefer changing projects with a little risk. 1.0 POSITIVE 1.0 POSITIVE 1.0 APPROVE 1.0 5.0 5.0 5.0 5.0 5.0 5.0 664288 Open Raizlabs will need to continually re-invent itself to be current. private:raizlabs https://www.glassdoor.com?employer_id=664288 Mar 19th, 2017 12:00AM Open Open Raizlabs Senior Engineer Not very "transparent" Varied work Chances to learn Location nice Be honest about transparency. Saying "we want to be transparent" and "we are transparent" are two wildly different things. Also be honest about positions. Do not say "we never ask people to work on weekends" then start putting people on call. Underpaid. A senior developer not making at least 100k is woefully underpaid and gets easily $120+ elsewhere. Doesn't understand scrum and how to apply it without beating people into the ground with meetings. Lies from upper management. Told one person should not have been put in a position, and instead of fixing it the change was made to be permanent. Mediocre clients for the most part. Generally one is a "big" client, while the rest are boring, useless projects. -1.0 NEGATIVE -1.0 NEGATIVE -1.0 DISAPPROVE 6.0 1.0 2.0 1.0 1.0 2.0 1.0 664288 Open It's hard to have any faith in a company when even upper management keeps leaving. Don't admit it was a mistake to make someone a temporary manager then permanently promote them. This goes back to the "saying we are transparent" vs "being transparent". 0.0 [] REGULAR No Yes 4.0 Apr 9th, 2021 05:33PM Apr 9th, 2021 05:33PM Raizlabs Industrials Support Services
private:raizlabs https://www.glassdoor.com?employer_id=664288 Mar 14th, 2017 12:00AM Open Open Raizlabs Hard but fulfilling work Amazing Team, an unending love of Technology and Innovation. The people I get to work with every day are incredibly smart - the hiring bar has been really high for a long time. Work can be tough, projects can be demanding and certain projects can be more challenging than others but that's the services business. 1.0 POSITIVE 1.0 POSITIVE 1.0 APPROVE 2.0 5.0 5.0 5.0 5.0 4.0 5.0 664288 Open There are some opportunities to refine the way projects work now that the company is so much bigger - but I know the management team is actively working on this. 0.0 [] REGULAR No Yes 0.0 Apr 9th, 2021 05:33PM Apr 9th, 2021 05:33PM Raizlabs Industrials Support Services
private:raizlabs https://www.glassdoor.com?employer_id=664288 Mar 14th, 2017 12:00AM Open Open Raizlabs Best job I've had - Open and honest culture that’s comfortable studying itself to get better. Sprint, project, and technical retrospectives offer a many opportunities for teams to incorporate feedback and try new approaches. - Choose your tools. Designers and developers have a lot of autonomy to tackle problems however they think is best. They have to be justifiable, of course, but there’s no secret cabal of decision-makers insisting on the One True Way. - Moonshots are encouraged. While some clients are in staid / risk-averse fields, teams frequently self-organize to include one or two “wow” experiences that push technical boundaries to meaningfully improve the user experience. - Lots of breadth. I’ve worked on projects in a crazy number of different industries and learned a ton about everything from amusement parks to medical devices. There are always new clients and technologies to keep things interesting. You can always jump in and help out a colleague on another project with a challenging problem. - You can see what projects are in the pipeline and provide feedback to management. I’ve often encouraged us to take projects in cool fields like health and education. I also I try to be mindful of the social impact of my work. While it seldom comes up, I definitely feel comfortable sharing my concerns about potential projects that could have unintended consequences. - It’s consulting. Know what you’re getting into. We’re often hired to launch products for startups or take established companies digital/mobile. That’s a lot of responsibility. - I wouldn’t really count this as a con, but my colleagues are very passionate and talented. They’re hungry to learn and it’s sometimes challenging to keep up. It’s not like they’re chasing the latest fad or anything, but they can go pretty deep on some of the design/engineering theory. - Staffing can sometimes be a surprise. There are several dozen engineers with all different experience and skills. Management tries to match people to projects based on their specific skills and interests, but the puzzle doesn’t always work out exactly right. Fortunately, there are a lot of new projects, so it’s never too long before you’re on something that suits you. 1.0 POSITIVE 1.0 POSITIVE 1.0 APPROVE 3.0 5.0 5.0 5.0 5.0 4.0 5.0 664288 Open - Keep being receptive to feedback. Everyone brings their own experience to the company. Don’t lose the personal touch. - Recognize your team one on one. Shoutouts, project demos, and the culture torch have all been great, but feedback from my manager is just as important, too. This can be a little uneven at times. - Continue to offer employees new and creative ways to build their skills, whether through client projects, open source, blog posts, internal tech talks, conferences, etc. Keep things fresh. That’s what keeps us here. 0.0 [] REGULAR No Yes 0.0 Apr 9th, 2021 05:33PM Apr 9th, 2021 05:33PM Raizlabs Industrials Support Services

Management is there when you need them, out of your way when you don't - trust is good. Everyone is smart and engaged - problem solvers. Everyone has a change to engage on the product side of decisions. Can be challenging. private:raizlabs https://www.glassdoor.com?employer_id=664288 Apr 1st, 2016 12:00AM Open Open Raizlabs Software Developer Boston, MA Freedom, Fun, Flexibility, Design and Development in harmony Raizlabs is a great place to work with talented PMs, developers, and designers. People here know how to get things done in a collaborative and efficient way. There are many agencies that do what Raizlabs does, but Raizlabs is one of the few that marries design and development very well. Both teams work very closely together and we strive to get projects that allow us to both design and develop them, because that is when we do our best work. Raizlabs does an excellent job of preventing clients from taking advantage of our employees. Employees rarely have to travel to client offices and when they do it is for a limited time to close a deal or work out start of project type stuff. No long term staffing in a client office here. Also, projects that become stale or just become glorified app maintenance, will not last for long. We want challenges and strive to find projects that do that. We also strive to have projects with at least two develops on a given platform, so you are never working alone. One of the greatest things about Raizlabs is the control they give you. You have the freedom to organize events, change processes, or own various things (e.g. build servers, open source repos, etc.). I have seen entire events organized out of thin air simply because someone took initiative. Raizlabs is flexible. Some people get into the office early in the morning, then leave early. Some get in later and stay later. Have a doctors appointment or a repairman coming to your house? Come in later or work from home. There are also unlimited vacation days. As long as you let your team know in advance and aren't taking advantage (I have yet to see anyone abuse the system), then take as much time as you need. Lack of clarity in roles. Team lead vs tech lead vs senior developer vs developer, these are things that need to be better defined. Everyone should know where they currently stand and what they need to do to get to the next level. Efforts have been taken to improve this with our mentorship program, it can still be vastly improved. Every single person at the company should be given timelines / goals so they know what they need to do to move up. 1.0 POSITIVE 1.0 POSITIVE 1.0 APPROVE 2.0 4.0 5.0 4.0 2.0 4.0 3.0 664288 Open As we grow, we must never forget that we design and we develop apps. We build software. Everything else is noise. The PMs, the designers, the developers are the life blood of the company, and as we grow that must not be forgotten. Define growth opportunities so people can see them and go get them (this relates to my con). 0.0 [] REGULAR No Yes 1.0 Apr 9th, 2021 05:33PM Apr 9th, 2021 05:33PM Raizlabs Industrials Support Services
private:raizlabs https://www.glassdoor.com?employer_id=664288 Mar 26th, 2016 12:00AM Open Open Raizlabs Software Developer Boston, MA Amazing Team, Near-Amazing Management, and Freedom I look forward to going to work every morning. I know that whatever project I work on, I'll be with very intelligent and fun people, and I'll have the opportunity to make any significant impact on a product. Even though most of the engineering and design employees are technically broken up into their separate projects, it's an open floorpan and you sit next to designers and developers outside of your team. There's a lot of communication between projects, so you have a lot resources to ask questions, or suggest new platform practices/standards, and you're expected to be a resource to others. It's also a fantastic place to learn new technologies - if you're interested in trying something new, all you need to do is communicate that to your team or the company's management and it's factored into the short and mid term plans of the project or company. In response to my cons below, the company is always asking feedback from it's employees and clients, and honestly addressing where it's lacking. If there is a problem in any aspect of your employment (e.g. working with a hard client, a problem with company policy or process, etc.), let it be known, and it won't be ignored. I've noticed quite a bit of office politics, some minor power trips, and manipulation of vague policies to the company's advantage (e.g. pitching flexibility when they hire you, but drawing lines when it doesn't benefit the company). It's hard to see a real career roadmap here - as there's no communicated growth initiative beyond, do well at your job and you'll get a yearly bonus/raise, and do *more* than your job and maybe one day you'll wake up and start getting paid for that extra work. 1.0 POSITIVE 1.0 POSITIVE 1.0 APPROVE 3.0 4.0 4.0 5.0 3.0 3.0 3.0 664288 Open You're doing a great job for the most part. Keep close the values that have built this amazing company, be less political (we're all on the same team), and be more appreciative. 0.0 [] No Yes 2.0 Apr 9th, 2021 05:33PM Apr 9th, 2021 05:33PM Raizlabs Industrials Support Services
