Much learning was done on the fly which negatively impacted the product and the work environment. The owners are extremely unorganized and look to blame shortcomings on anyone or anyone else. They lacked initial investment and made up for it by unfairly and illegally taking advantage of others. Employees were vastly underpaid and interns were not paid at all (even though there was no focus on gaining experience or learning new skills). Owners even got mad when employees reported over time. Photo shoots were arranged with the promise of goods and future opportunities that were never delivered. Past interns did not receive the positive recommendations that they were promised and deserved. Owners burned many bridges in the short time that I was there. There is no opportunity for growth (though the owners might tell you there is during your interview). You will not receive credit (financially or otherwise) for your work or your ideas. The owners creatively remember the past and in interviews have taken credit for my work/ideas as solely theirs, as individuals. The management is quite simple unprofessional, involving employees in their personal and marital problems. Non-corporate, progressive thought process behind "locally made" business model. The most immediately alarming practice to me was their non-payment of overtime to employees who were clearly working overtime. These employees were all "non-exempt" meaning they were not salaried and even if they wanted to salary them, their wages would still have been too low for them to be exempt from overtime. One employee in particular was "talked out of" 10 hours of overtime one week. Mostly it was an hour here or there, but the law is the law and who knowingly does something illegal to save a few bucks? There is no middle management; I found the owners to be dismissive, unhelpful and rude. I often found myself scrambling for answers because there were little to no systems in place to train me and the owners couldn't be bothered. Most of my questions were answered with "I dunno." I often found myself being asked to perform tasks that the owners knew very well I had no experience or training to do. Ownership had no tolerance for mistakes and became aggressive and angry without ever considering his own short-comings in training that may have lead to the error. The owners were so demanding and hostile that I often arrived to work depressed and/or terrified for what horrors I would encounter that day. The working conditions were dismal, unorganized and dirty with very little resources for staff, owners cut every corner imaginable. Office workers sat on second hand chairs from junk yards while the owner skate boarded around the warehouse scolding employees for talking to each other. There were no benefits whatsoever - no health, no dental, no paid lunch and a week's vacation. It was a miserable working experience. Ownership commented on physical appearance + other attributes of colleagues and people in the community in a more negative way than I felt appropriate of business owners trying to build a brand. Extremely unorganized as a whole, very poor communication between management and employees. Actually, there is no middle management, everyone reports directly to the two owners. They are severely passive aggressive.Quickly become hostile and inconsolable in irreproachable situations. Projects are often done at the last minute, management has very poor time management skills. No growth opportunities, at all. Company has few to no long term employees, very quick to burn bridges. Management is not interested in cultivating outside talent or communicating with employees to better their management style/company as a whole. No human resources department, sometimes gross and intolerant remarks from management. The company receives a lot of press and is carried in retail stores and boutiques. Learn how to network in the apparel industry. No benefits, very little pay for what you are expected to do. Heads of the company are highly unorganized and bend the truth, often finding employees or interns to blame for their own blunders. If you intern there, you will be ironing the entire time you are there. You will not learn anything about fashion design other than how to buy or knock-off other companies' designs. Casual work environment, seems like a cool place to outsiders Extremely difficult to work with bosses/owners, uninterested in cultivating work relationships with employees or allowing employees to cultivate them, never factor in raises -- most everyone is grossly underpaid, unorganized production floor that leads to confusion and contant mistakes.
