Great people, poorly managed
Great people, quirky personalities, free snacks, Pancake breakfast Wednesdays, BBQ fridays,
Upper management couldn't be more disconnected with it's people and projects, feels very out of touch with current trends and practices. Poor studio moral.

Get to know your people, you're only a few desks away after all. Encourage and be willing to invest in training and software that will help employees grow. Take down those 1990's motivational posters. They're an offensive bandaid for the real problem, that the poor studio moral is a direct result of poor management. Stop holding yourselves back by using the excuse, "that's how it's always been done in this industry." Strive to be better than that. Embrace new ideas. Accept that you don't know everything, that your idea isn't always the best, and that you have an entire team behind you with experience and ideas waiting to be tapped into. Richard Branson said, "Clients do not come first. Employees come first. If you take care of your employees, they will take care of the client."

Fun environment but poorly managed
Some of the coolest people I ever worked with. Friday BBQs were great. They tried really hard to create a culture of comraderie.
Pay is not competitive. Bad habit of hiring folks straight out of college, with no real life experience, and then throwing tough jobs at them.
Placing everybody on salary and then working them 12 to 14 hours a day, sometimes 6 or 7 days a week.
Difficulty meeting deadlines because of incompetent producers and underqualified engineers.
Art department seemed very capable.
In the few months I was there, I didn't see any real roadmap to success or promotion. I was offered to come on full time, but had to say no because there are no official company policies on anything, and the whole place seems to exist at the whim of the owners.
Seems really hard to let incompetent people go.

If you want to compete with the big boys, then stop running your company like an amateur mom & pop shop. Get a real biz-dev person in there to grow the business. Reward your quality people and ditch the bricks.

Great Way to Learn Multiple Jobs in Gaming
The leadership in the company goes out of its way to make sure that employees are given a chance to succeed. They rarely put out job posts, and instead opt to find the best people for a position. For that reason, they invest highly in their employees and try desperately to help them succeed. If someone is interested in learning different jobs within game development, they will allow for cross-training opportunities, matching your skills with people who can teach you something new. Generally speaking, anyone who is hired belongs with the company, so they are treated as a member of the team on their first day.
While a lot of work is currently being done in this direction, the only frustration I've had is unclear guidelines, training, or career progression. I believe this will be remedied soon, as many of the team leads have begun working towards better on-boarding and greater career opportunities for existing team members. As with most Utah-based companies, the base salary levels seems low based on local standards, but most companies I've worked for will pay less than what the industry standard is listed as on Glassdoor. While it is frustrating, if I were to move to a different company in Utah, I would have the same criticism.

The current direction of clear career progression and growth is a huge improvement. Many team members have stated that this direction is keeping them in the company, and as a relatively new employee, I have more faith in React than any of my previous employers. Also, continue to hand-pick employees. When I was contacted for employment, I was flattered and believed that this would be a company that would take me places. People want to feel valued, and your current hiring practice goes a long way towards instilling loyalty within the company.

Wouldn't recommend

The artists and a producer are nice people, who are very talented.
They used cracked software, you know, like an amateur would. The pay is ridiculously low, and they expect you to work 50-60 hours a week.

Lost sight of who matters.
Amazing Executive Producers. Lots of snacks and bbq Fridays. Friendly faces...sort of.
Poor planning, poor execution, poor communication from owners, and non-stop crunch periods without overtime compensation. Project funding was grossly mismanaged which caused more problems than solutions. Accountability within the company, especially at the management level, seemed nonexistent. Talent scouting was "hit" or "miss" but more "miss" than "hit". Too much junior level talent dragging production down and burning through the project budget. Business to client relationships are very disrespectful towards clients.
The general mentality held is "good enough" throwing quality to the curb. Though, this is more due to over-promising.... which tends to happen a lot there.

Trim the fat and hire people that are professionals, pay them a fair wage, compensate your teams with over-time pay when they put in those extra 20-30+ hours a week to meet those insane deadlines. Without them, nothing would get done.
