Don't put yourself through it - Toxic, gossipy culture in a dying company.
|
|
Remote policy and flexible hours.
|
Marked by a toxic work environment and an unsettling sense of uncertainty working for Ready Education is an awful experience.
From the top-down, the leadership lacks the vision and support necessary to foster a healthy workplace culture. Employees often find themselves feeling undervalued and overlooked.
The leadership's inability to provide clear direction only exacerbates the existing issues with some managers flat out ignoring their direct reports. Without a roadmap or guidance on how to navigate challenges, employees are left in limbo to fend for themselves. This lack of direction fosters a culture of confusion and frustration, further damaging morale and productivity. When a road map has been implemented there is often U-turns fostering a lack of trust in leadership.
Monthly layoffs and quarterly restructuring seem to be a regular occurrence, casting a shadow of doubt over the future of every employee. This constant threat looms large, contributing to heightened stress levels and unease among the workforce.
Good luck if you choose to work here, you'll need it.

Great Product - lots of change internally -
|
|
Remote - no micro-managing - have the tools to do the job - hard-working people and team - Okay pay -
|
All new upper management - seems to have great experience in the ed tech world- empty promises - told that upper management wants feedback but goes about their plan anyway - Might see the value of their employees but don't make them feel that way and rather focus on cutting corners to save money.

Recognize the key players and make them feel heard.
If there is a plan in place just let the company know rather than giving it in pieces and acting like the employees have a say.
Growth is important but so is keeping the reputation of the product, customer service, and culture internally.

This is a dying company
|
|
Not much apart from the usual "remote-first" perk bullshit.
|
While Ready Education was once an attractive company, known for its ambitious growth prospects and highly talented full-time employees (FTEs), it now resembles a declining business. The company faces increasing customer churn, constantly changing senior leadership, and significantly flawed operational execution. Joining this company might not be advisable unless you are prepared to work under toxic leadership in an environment where layoffs and strategy changes occur monthly. Moreover, the new CEO lacks understanding of intercultural management and the workings of a startup, so it's important not to be misled by promises about joining the company.

Hoping that Level Equity can create some liquidity from what remains of Ready, so that the next private equity firm to take control realizes the extent of the issues and fire the SLT (again, lol).

Typical corporate leadership saving money at expense of employees
|
|
Semi-flexible schedule,
Work from home.
Doesn't micro-manage.
|
Below market average pay,
Executive leadership team is all new and postponing title changes or compensation increases for 6+ months now.
Recent layoffs of the workers actually getting stuff done while they also just hired new CEO CFO CPO CCO and CTO who I assume all get big fat paychecks.
Engineering is basically keeping the lights on with skeleton crews.

If you want employees to work harder and care about the company you have to give them respect, compensation, and career advancement opportunity. Layoffs are the symptom of a failure of leadership.

Great company & people (but salary can be better)!
|
|
- Remote
- Weekly "All-hands" meetings (received updates on what each department was working on, had accomplished, and what was to come).
- Sense of belonging (Slack channel for "shout-outs" that are read during the All-hands weekly meeting).
- Younger crowd (no micro-managing).
- The company is open to new ideas.
- Core values you can *actually* look up to and feel proud of.
|
- Pay
- Growth opportunities (the company was acquiring companies quickly during my last year and growth opportunities I had previously discussed with my managers were disappearing as new employees joined. It sucked because I liked the company, the people, and the core values).

- Keep being transparent with employees (All-hand meetings).
- Don't forget about the employees (during my last year, the company was moving quickly and acquiring new companies every few months. Although this is exciting, I felt like some employees were being left behind).
- Ready Education is no longer a start-up (review the salaries of your employees. With the increased cost of living and how quickly the company is growing, there's surely some wiggle room to adjust the wages to be more "liveable").
