Working with luxury product and contributing to a growing industry. Unfortunately the cons really outweighs the pros here and I don’t really know where to start. I came to Rebag and it was in the beginning an amazing company to work for that really felt like it cared for its employees. This company was at one time one of the most diverse work places I have ever worked in every way and I enjoyed that especially when collaborating. However, with the change of upper management things went down hill very fast. Not only have I personally experienced gender bias, but I have also been witness to a multitude of discriminatory situations and conversations from the COO. I personally had to sit through a review that not only was the least professional in my career, but questions my staying and working for a company that believes it’s acceptable to call women emotional in a review with zero context to areas where emotion has stopped me from performing my job. Not only is unprofessional, but leaves me with zero ways to improve my performance as emotions are a personality trait. I addressed Hr about these issues and was met with I have to accept criticism and feedback. Also, I am unable to get any metrics on the performance of my team and was told “the data will drive me crazy”. On multiple other occasions when asking for data or information I have been told math isn’t linear, I’m too creative of a thinker, I’m too detailed of a thinker and focus too much on the small details, but every single male employee has been presented as “brilliant” and an “all star athlete.” None of this is acceptable behavior for upper management and I would honestly not recommend anyone especially women looking to grow in their careers to work here. Projects never get completed, all meetings are canceled or blown off, it’s impossible to get a one on one touch base, and all managers have been reduced to become individual contributors because goals are not achievable or based on past data but instead a number that the COO pulls out of thin air. All employees are treated like they are “rigging” the system and all customers are treated like they are “scamming” the system. Create a safe space for employees in distress to report things that are not acceptable in the work place. Take things seriously because if not these topics discussed tend to fester and eventually go from being one top level manager view and becomes an entire toxic work place. Operate with more transparency. The few wonderful people I met along the way. This was hands down the worst company I’ve ever worked for. At no point working here did I feel safe or stable because of how volatile the environment was. You are constantly being disrespected and abused, ESPECIALLY by “upper management”. The “leaders” of the retail department are a pair of unqualified delusional narcissists. Have absolutely zero idea how to manage, let alone keep a team. All they’re good for is micromanaging the video cameras in the store when they want to watch your every move (with the convenience of the app on their phones.) Nothing about this company is professional. I watched store directors/managers constantly get undermined and bad-mouthed(by upper management) in front of me. Co-workers fired mid shift in front of me. A specific “leader” of retail be extremely flirtatious and inappropriate to fellow female coworkers in front of me. Blatant racism and different treatment for people of color. You name it, I saw it! If you bring up any issues or concerns, you are gaslit and told “it’s the nature of the business.” The torture of working here is not even worth double the pay! Characterized by an atmosphere of fear, unfair practices, & lack of accountability. General resale is a promising industry to be in, especially if you have an interest or values that align with an eco-conscious and/or sustainable future. Rebag is relatively well known for being a "start-up" in the fashion tech space, as well as a go-to website for pre-owned luxury goods. The team (prior to downsizing, outsourcing, and multiple rounds of layoffs), was always a well-rounded crew with diverse backgrounds and experiences. There were many talented individuals who were extremely dedicated that tried their best to create a collaborative and supportive environment. Unfortunately the negative reviews, old and new, are very much true. And it ties back to the leaders at the top. Toxicity and fear is woven into all staff, regardless of position, from VP’s and above. This includes everything from public and threatening ridicule in front of your co-workers, to tactics to try to manipulate information to get another associate in “trouble” so they can be let go. This unfortunately is the most prevalent in the retail stores where it is a constant revolving door, with upper management (a.k.a directors and above) turning a blind eye in why associates leave, or making excuses that they were not competent. Most retail management (store managers/leads) and associates did not go through training from their direct managers, and received the blame although it was out of their control. There have been several reports of inappropriate behavior with no conversations or follow-ups to the individuals involved (including reporting incidents to an off-shore "HR"). Overall, there is constant oblivion to the concerns of employees. Attempts to raise issues are met with indifference or defensiveness, fostering an environment where problems are swept under the rug. To make matters worse, there is no structure for employee development or trajectory to look forward to. Instead of being based on skills, accomplishments, and commitment, commission, raises, and bonuses are often handed out based on personal connections or favoritism. This has created an environment where deserving individuals are overlooked, while others are elevated without demonstrating the necessary qualifications or achievements. Ultimately the absence of qualified leadership creates this lack of investment in employee development. Without competent mentors and leaders to develop proper development plans, employees simply just do not have the guidance and mentorship necessary for their professional growth, contributing to a stagnant and demoralized workforce. These inexperienced leaders have resorted to short-term fixes rather than investing in sustainable, long-term solutions for both employees and their day-to-days. Band-aid measures are applied to deep-rooted problems, providing temporary relief but exacerbating issues in the long run. These leaders exhibit a startling lack of qualifications for the roles they hold. Decision-makers lack the essential expertise to navigate the complexities of the industry, resulting in misguided strategies, flawed policies, and a general disconnect from the realities of the business. Employees stay in the dark about the rationale behind company trajectory, which again, includes their development. This continues to fuel suspicion and contributes to an overall environment of distrust. He is an evil man who is full of empty promises and lies and the ceo is no different. Not to mention they are racist considering the recent lay off was a majority of all the black people in the company. Work environment sucks. It’s toxic, lifeless, sometimes inhumane. Impossible expectations, heavy workload, lack of communication across the board and between departments. Workers are treated horribly and HR doesn’t listen or do anything because they don’t even live in the US. No appreciate whatsoever for its workers. People who work there are truly nice and helpful, however, they've been restructuring the whole company to contract people in LATAM so it's cheaper for them. This means you'll not receive ANY benefits or coverages. - You get paid once a month and payment would always get delayed for an extra 5 days. - No raise. - No benefits, coverages, health. - No guidance or training. - No real management. - High-stress late hours to ultimately no reward. Not even a water courtesy for the extra hours and keep in mind, extra hours are not paid. - Very low transparency in management with very low team engagement. - Unreasonable demands. - You will not be seen as a person, rather than an object. - HR does not exist. - They'll promise equipment, travel to NY, benefits, and others. I know finding a job is hard right now, but please avoid this company if you can. I've never experienced something like this before. There's no organization or plan B. There´s no support, not even moral support. They hire people without understanding what's each one role and responsibilities are unless you know Excel, you're good to go. They need to understand what each person's responsibilities are and their strengths to make sure they'll succeed in their role and the company's goals. And they need to prioritize mental health, they truly diminish you. They are SO okay with leaving one or two people in one whole department by themselves for them to figure it out, even if they have less than 6 months of experience in the company. HR is a joke.
