• A month or so before we were all let go, we were asked to write positive reviews on Glassdoor since the ratings were slipping. Buyer beware.
• There is a serious disconnect between the managements's perception of Red Frog and reality. When I started, it was an inspiring, creative, culture-based company, and I positively loved the job, the gritty parts and all. After 3 years, people had left, bad decisions were made, the culture weakened, and we all started to feel it. It seems like anyone that had expressed dissatisfaction was let go in the second massive wave of layoffs since my hiring (20 people, myself included, this past October).

The people that work at Red Frog, that actually are planning and making things happen are incredible. For all that Red Frog has done wrong in the last few years I give them credit that the internship brought about some amazingly talented people that have a ton of passion and have been a pleasure to work with.
|
1. Lack of Leadership: Joe has the vision and the desire, but he surrounds himself around lack of leadership. This is the biggest and will continue to be the biggest bottleneck until something is resolved. 2 layoffs in 2.5 years, with a ton of voluntary departures is absurd, learn from your mistakes
2. Finances: This year has been the worst for finances with many vendors not being paid for months. While they say it's just because of a down year, it has happened every year since 2013. Yet it is the event managers who have to answer the emails and calls, tarnishing their own names.
3. Lack of accountability for senior leadership. The event managers can only run events so lean. If new business isn't coming in then it is a problem with those responsible for new business, not the event teams.

Staffing: Do whatever you can to keep the people who are left. They are the only reason you are still in business. They are and always will be your biggest asset.
Finances: Though its been suggested every year, please tell the staff when vendors arent being paid, the last thing they need is to hear for the first time from the actual vendor. That isnt fair, and makes us look ignorant.
Culture: The people are the culture, not the perks. People don't care about lavish and unnecessary retreats. Have a nice dinner in Chicago, thank them for their hard work and they'll be just as happy.
Hire HR: We've never officially had HR, but now that everyone is gone there really isnt any HR, literally. The website Namely doesnt count. It will save you a ton of headaches and your employees deserve it.
