It is good that they are attempting to change their model and how they operate but there is a lot of damage already done. The operations team is top notch at delivering what is promised but strategy is just not on par. - When I look back on my time at Resurge it is from a place of embarrassment. Embarrassment at how much I did not know and how little leadership did to teach their staff. - The culture was one of paranoia and suspicion. The work that ReSurge does for patients & families is outstanding and generous. 2. The medical/non-medical volunteers that take the time out of their busy schedules to change the lives of thousands who need access to basic medical care. 3. The future (if any) of the organization and what can be achieved (if) they get government funding. (Probably after Trump's tenure as POTUS.) 1. Unfortunately this organization does not value employees. You can be there for 6 months, 2 years or 18 years - not one person in management will really value the hard work you bring to the table. (P.S. Gratitude, Leadership and Honesty are FREE.) 2. Understanding and/or wanting to learn about the real work that is done by lower level staff on a day to day basis. (Something I'm sure they are learning now...) 3. Not very strategic - let me explain. This organization is currently or is "coming out of" a deficit. Through guidance from the Board, it was expressed that upper management must take immediate action (after the CEO took a two week vacation). The organization laid off three individuals - two of which worked in fundraising - the very thing needed to sustain an organization. Additionally, I'm pretty sure the individuals that were let go were "on board" and didn't "move on" by choice as stated in the previous review. 4. "Tweaking the strategic plan to sustain the organization needs" is more than just cutting jobs. It's prioritizing the necessary programs and fundraising efforts and it's having upper management take a pay cut. Glassdoor reviews and keeping the employees you have left happy in dismal times. It may be a shift in priority but when the going get tough...ReSurge managers go on vacation or on a team trip, whichever is more convenient. The CEO once said to me "I always want to ask colleagues: how I am doing?" Well I can tell you. You may be making the Board (and some other upper management) happy but you are not doing a great job at being likable to everyone else. In a small non-profit, caring about the individuals that really help you and carry your day to day so you can be a leader is FREE. It doesn't take more than a "thank you, you did great" to let your staff know you care about them as team members and people...even when you're in the process of laying them off. This organization has the potential to be the best when they have the support of committed staff, board, volunteers and donors. Right now management is catty, unfocused and doing damage control. Although the organization has been around for many year, when the long-time CEO retired, the current CEO came on board and tweaked the strategy to improve the organization's ability to meet its mission sustainably. The changes are really beginning to deliver results--long-time supporters are taking a fresh look at the organization, new supporters are showing an interest, and the programs continue to transform the lives of our patients. On a personal level, I love the fact that I have a great deal of autonomy, but know I can reach out to my manager and colleagues for support at any time.
