Terrible Work Environment-RUN AWAYYYYY

There aren't really any pros of working hear besides the fact that my check never bounced....

Retrieve has been running in circles for the past two years. With nice improvements to the actual product, the management team still has no idea what they are doing. Everything is micromanaged to the exact words used in an email, and very talented sales people are pigeon holed by the CEO and his "vision". I do believe the company and software could be very useful, but nothing will develop as long as Dave Arnold is continuing to micromanage everything, and not willing to give up any control.
All in all, there are some good people there who know what they are doing, but aren't allowed to do it, because Dave Arnold believes he has the answer for everything. The company needs a better, MORE EXPERIENCED, management team that is not comprised of the CEO, his son, and his sons two best friends.
Also, HR doesn't exist here. So if you have a problem, just keep it to yourself or it might get you in trouble!

The people are everything...or at least they were. The vast majority of the company has either been let go or have left. Before it turned into the nightmarish shell of a company that it is now, it was great. An eager, youthful, enthusiastically vibrant atmosphere filled with hard working individuals ready to put in the work and make things happen.
|
The environment is the most toxic and volatile one I have ever been a part of. Retrieve has been at it for more than a year, and they still don’t know what their product as. Seriously, all it takes is a call with a sales guy or a quick skim of the website to realize that they don’t have a clue what the product is. The messaging is about as clear as the summit of Everest during a whiteout blizzard and the “direction” of the company changes every few weeks. Whatever the CEO says, goes. Period. He’s gone through three presidents, two VP’s, and twenty or so front office employees in the span of ONE YEAR. But if you play his game, nod your head and smile when he rambles on in his delusional world about how he created a product that is better than email, mobile, slack, Facebook, LinkedIn, etc. combined, then you do have opportunity to grow. (i.e. the current President is a twenty-something year old kid who played the game well, props to him). Every couple of months or so, random firings are expected. Upper management handles these about as poorly as humanly possible. If you do happen to work here, against all advice and warnings not to do so, keep an eye on your email because it could/most likely will be turned off at some point without warning. And lastly, keep an eye out for the completely BULL fake positive reviews on here. Every couple of weeks the current employees are told to go on and write fake reviews. It’s pretty easy to identify the genuine ones versus the baloney, for example, “Startup with Excellent Leadership” is as dishonest and over-embellished as it gets. The lack of strong, morally sound leadership is the very reason why Retrieve will never ever live up to its full potential.

The CEO and CFO refuse to take advice or input. If you try to point him in another, more researched, more applicable direction he plots to get you out of the picture. As evidenced by three Presidents in the span of a year.
Save yourself the disappointment and turmoil and stay away.

Its a very TOXIC environment with the CEO trying to "micro manage" everyone. He literally has a spreadsheet of every employee's work for the week...hour by hour, task by task. It feels like he's constantly looking over your shoulder and freaks out if someone is not at their desk. He walks into closed door discussions at ANY TIME just to see what people are saying. Even worse, the business changes direction every 3-4 months and the CEO randomly fires a bunch of people (he's fired 3 different Presidents in 15 months). Benefits are TERRIBLE...bad healthcare insurance. If you look at the pictures on Glassdoor 80% of the people are no longer there...they even fired a bunch of people the WEEK BEFORE Christmas!!!

Retrieve is a rapidly evolving startup that will not hold your hand or coddle you. They don't attract people that like to work by a manual, and if you have the propensity for complacency and comfort, it will be noticed quickly. The result of this is a remainder of high performing individuals with a strong sense of purpose and significant opportunity for growth.

If you are adverse to the agile mindset and the ease in which rapid business change can occur, you won't be comfortable at Retrieve. If you like very defined job responsibilities and are not excited about wearing multiple hats, you will not enjoy your time.
