The people are great. They are very patient and understanding and all about safety. They treat you with respect and never leave anyone out. They brag and always say things about your work that will make you feel good about your work or help you do it better.

The management is terrible. They will smoke and mirror you with promises of advancement but there isnt anywhere to go in the company. They lay off more people than they promote. Use people to get what they need and then fire them for someone cheaper and wonder why quality is so bad and also turn over rate. They approve things like time off and then write you up for it, bereavement included. Which is just disgusting in my opinion. The co workers you will encounter throughout this struggle will be some of the best people you could imagine working with. The company was a gem to work for my first time as they were privately owned. All downhill since then, like most companies that sell.

The culture there was all about who you know and who likes you. There was no team work only individuality. The pay was minimum wage even though we were building products that cost thousands per unit.

Great first step
|
Rigid typically has been great place for advancement. The company has a policy of hiring within before they look outside. They still will hire outside if needed. People come in with no experience and 2 years later have 50 people under them, head of a department, or engineering liaison, etc.
Rigid is now owned by Truck-Lite. Truck-Lite has a plant in Mexico. Most all Rigid products are now made in Mexico.
When I started working at Rigid the gravel parking lot in back for hourly line workers was full to overflowing. Now it's less than 1/4 full. Front asphalt lot for salary is thinning out as well. It remains to be seen if Rigid will be reduced to a brand name only, or remain an independent amalgamation within the Truck-Lite/ Penske brand.
The writing of this is 2018 and Rigid is currently gong through massive layoffs. Rigid has been an all around positive experience. But with the restructuring it would be wise to wait till the dust settles before you apply.
