HR team did not ever finalise my contract. I arrived in Tokyo and was given an entirely different contract than the one I had originally signed before moving. Due to this discrepancy, the entire contract was nullified and I was asked to keep quiet and work as an unpaid intern. Interns usually benefit from the cost of the flight, and full accommodation being covered plus a monthly stipend. I should have qualified as an intern but my lab only sponsored my accommodation, and therefore I did not work under the official RIKEN Intern Contract which technically should not be allowed.

I got along with everyone pretty well. Overtime opportunity was available at times. Performance bonuses were paid dependent on quality and quantity of production. I left on good standing with the company, and I feel if I wanted to return I could with little difficulty.

This job gave new meaning to me as the ultimate in tediousness. It was very stressful to maintain rhythm of having multiple machines running simultaneously while inspecting parts produced on seemingly short cycle times. I was never as efficient as others. I quit after three years. Very little if any chance of advancement.
