Employees who did less on the job were promoted to positions beyond their abilities. Employees who did their jobs well were just given more work. Being in a salaried position, this company took/takes full advantage of that situation. Rumored in the industry as a firm who is unwilling to pay the proper wages for the jobs being done, getting new staffers in the door was an everlasting problem. For every one person hired, two would quit, typically taking positions at other local establishments for more income. In an industry where there are so few new faces joining the field, this way of doing business will surely catch up to them, it is just a matter of time. The one redeeming factor is that many of the employees with good work ethic are genuinely nice and caring people - unfortunately, none of these people are in management. I am also PMP certified. It became clear soon after starting at RSC that I had entered into an unworkable situation. I was never given the chance to succeed or fail at any task. The project churn was such that projects were frequently re-assigned by my manager before I had a chance to gain any traction on them. There were bizarre controlling behaviors exhibited by my manager including contradictory comments and direction, questioning (and criticizing) thought processes and micromanagement among other things. There seems to be an unyielding and rigid over-adherence to PMP processes, some of which are overkill for the typical project this team managed. These were all the failings of the recently promoted director (formerly the Sr. Ops PM) to whom I reported. I have since learned that I am the third PM within two years who could not work directly with this individual. Knowing I was in a dysfunctional situation, I put in my two-week notice after only three months. At the request of HR, I provided my professional assessment of the situation. Rather than pay me for the full two-weeks, they let me go after one day. I’ve never encountered a situation like this before and hopefully won’t again. RSC seems like a good company. The issues I encountered seem isolated to having to work with a problematic individual to whom I reported. If this person were not there, I could see myself having a happy and successful career at RSC. It's also possible that the company's refusal to fix this issue could be symptomatic of a larger problem. If you enjoy being micromanaged to the point where you can't even attempt to do your work because you must have 3 hour daily meetings that make no sense and are in NO way productive or necessary you will love this place. Management is disorganized and you will constantly be given conflicting information or instructions from different sources and feel the wrath when you choose the "incorrect" instructions to follow. There is a very intense "Mean Girls" style office culture of constant gossip, belittling, undermining, rumors, and drama. On several occasions, I was loudly and condescendingly chastised with colleagues nearby for ridiculous things. I was told on my first day by several individuals that the last four people in my position had either quit or been fired within 3 months. The last hire actually came in for her first day...and never came back, with no contact thereafter.This is hands down the WORST job I have ever had misfortune of working at. This is a very toxic and unhealthy place to work.
