The worst salon experience I've ever had
|
Modern salon assistants are not glorified housekeepers and should not be kept in training for more than three years. A salon that is truly supportive of their team will teach their assistants while on the job, and promote them on the floor once they are ready. At Rita Hazan, their assistants are treated like the housekeepers to the head colorists, and kept in "training" for minimum 5 years. Rita's current assistant has been with her for 6 years! Hello, people, you are being taken advantage of.
I was excited to try Rita Hazan and "learn from the best". Once I got there, I was appalled at the lack of skill from the colorists, the lack of education, and the way the assistants were being used in the hopes of one day working in the salon. They have a mentality that "if you can make it there, you can make it anywhere". No, your salon working environment is terrible, and it's not setup to help new assistants learn or thrive.
The floor managers were nice, and that was the only decent part. Everything else was literally the worst salon experience I've ever had, included witnessing the dated color techniques of the colorists. I do not recommend.

Typical work day consist of setting up head stylist station, stocking bar, towels and products. Assisting head stylist with clients and customer servicing clients as well. Shampooing clients, prepping clients for all services. Cleaning and packing away head stylist station and prepping the salon for the next day of work. I learned how to address and work with high profile clientele. Different ways to cut and blow dry hair. How to process Brazilian keratin treatments as well as Japanese treatments. Salon is undergoing different management meaning there has been new management since I started and new rules set for the salon. The salon is going under changes and trying to comply with New York state laws and requirements in regards to their employees. Rules and regulations are constantly changing because management is still trying to figure out a regiment that complies with NYS guidelines. My co-workers are fun and helpful but often overwhelmed. Hardest part of the job is mentioning a balance with the new floor management guidelines and trying to best assist the head stylist. Most enjoyable part of my job is styling hair. It is great to be part of a transformation in clients externally and internally.

all lies, while she's killing time and I'm working hard, they fired me instead of the other worker, supervisor don't want you to hear your side of story
