Tough Job At Times - But They Usually Leave You Alone

Decent salary, competent management, lots of opportunity for advancement and good co-workers. Generally, they foster a good environment for teamwork. Time flies and the day is over before you know it, even when you work long hours. The 401k plan is spectacular! I was there nearly two decades and only left because I retired.
|
Company is way too top-heavy and the "woke" stuff sometimes goes a bit too far. In some facilities, there can be too many chiefs and not enough Indians. The sales division and operations division sometimes seem to be competing against each other instead of working together.

For the most part, you are your own boss wrt account visits. You create the timing and structure of your day within certain parameters. You are geo-tracked and do frequent check-ins via text and phone. And of course you enter your successses into salesforce so your work is documented. I would also say I learned quite a bit, but a lot of it is depressing or useless.

Your direct report will be someone who started in this position and moved up. Pray you get 'one of the good ones'. My first boss had zero interest in training me which is strange becuase their commission is directly tied to your commission. I had a counterpart in the field who was wonderful and really did all the training. Shortly thereafter I had no boss...then a great boss then no boss again. This was all in one year. LOL. So I would say your chances of success are a real crap shoot based on to whom you report and what territory you receive. But maybe the larger factor in your success is that you may or may not get the materials and tools you need to make your commission. You will proudly build a beautiful display of cases of liquor and think you will get commission maybe even win a contest only to be told that it was missing a 'necker'. What necker? Who knows?! It is impossible to understand how a company can be that disorganized so as to miss some of the most basic of tasks. Honeslty I feel badly for the clients. They spend money designing and printing all these materials that don't end up getting used. I don't now if the company grew to quickly? It sounds like it may have been pretty cool at one time, but not right now. Not in this region anyway. It's sad, becuase this entry level position is what the entire business model is really all about - ensuring brands look great in stores and getting beautifully displayed thereby increasing sales. It is the very foundation. In the meantime there are lots of initiatives like green, DEI, something for veterans...all kindsa feel good stuff that would be fine if they were really rocking the basic business model, but that is crumbling. Retention is another issue. In this sector at least, I'd say we've only ever attained 75-80% of a full staff/team? I really wanted to be in wine and spirits. It's something I very much personally enjoy and I love bringing my brands to parties and turning people on to new products.

A lot of red flags here. Unrealistic timeframes and expectations, have to track your own incentive because they will not be accurate and won’t get paid, payroll taking out more taxes with no explanation, extremely few career opportunities especially by sex and gender, no since of loyalty unless you are upper management, drive 300-500 miles a week with no type of reimbursement, cut your commission by cutting routes. The list can go on and on. It’s a great start fresh out of college but it’s not sustainable if you’re looking to advance your career.
