Unlimited paid time off. Healthcare benefits. Free food trucks once a week. Overall relaxed work environment with very low stress. Behind the facade of this being a relaxed work environment with a great culture, is the lack of proper management and business knowledge. Upper management sticks with those who do not know how to lead, and who only believe that their idea is the only way to success. Forward thinking and progress is encouraged, only to be shot down or told that it is currently “not a priority”. We are constantly using broken systems, but are told that we need to do what we have to and find ways around these issues. Rather than address the issues and create a system that works for us. The company would rather you find a workaround to an issue they can fix, rather than actually fix it. Department heads are allowed to hire their relatives, provide them with top leads, raises and other perks. Ideas are presented as “new and exciting” but are really old, outdated, and widely accepted common practices elsewhere. These ideas also take months, sometimes years to come to life. Changes happen instantly and with little to no notice. Good luck keeping up with new procedures as something introduced today can be scrapped tomorrow. Don’t be surprised to find out about changes made to your system from customers, leaving you to seem like a fool when you’re caught off guard. No system of order from department to department. No one knows who does what, and where to go with what issues. Listen to the day to day workers. Take some of their issues and see how you can bring real change. Management should lead by example, rather than lead with cheesy outdated “motivational” sales scripts and unnecessary bravado. Also let other managers have real power, rather than a title that has no say when they discuss issues with their superior. It’s hard to take a manager seriously, when you know that just like you, they have no power. Lastly, people want to be heard, not just listened too. If you want hard working employees who give you their all, then they deserve the same level of effort back. When issues they are facing are brought up for months, take the moment to truly hear them out and implement change. They have an open door policy and quite literally no doors or offices except for the agency, RMNG. There are dogs throughout the office so you always have a furry friend to hang with throughout the day. Every week we have a food truck that comes to feed the office- definitely a fun perk. Management is hardworking, laidback and result oriented. They are open to hearing your ideas on ways we can improve the company overall and are caring about who you are as a person outside of the office. We are growing pretty rapidly and we are quickly out growing the office walls. It lacks sunlight and sometimes I forget to leave, but I do tend to get a lot of work done throughout the day because of it. There is a major issue within the catering sales department management. The company is losing its best employees at a rapid pace due to multiple negative run-ins with long established management. Everyone has their own story - but no one is being heard or addressed. The management is a liability to an otherwise well intentioned place. Mixed bag. -chill work environment -room for growth if you work hard -open minded to hear ideas -loved my direct boss -in house system causing chaos and taking too long to implement -disorganized -bro club -no equity but stalk options (plus) -must be proactive to climb or you will sit for years in same role. -have a hard time firing/cutting people. ESP in sales. I've been working at Roaming Hunger for almost 7 years, and it's been an incredible learning experience for me. It's a place of openness and willingness to constantly improve. The pressure to succeed here is present as it is in most companies, but Roaming Hunger understands that failure is apart of the process. This alleviates stress and creates a wonderful sense of community and a feeling that everyone is in it together. Looking back, the process to get here has become the reward - trial and error, learning, and (more often than not) succeeding, is what makes this company EXCITING. Lastly, I've always felt that the best ideas always received attention, and ultimately win out - no matter who or where they come from. I started with Roaming Hunger when there was just a few people in a small Santa Monica office. The heart is around being innovative, identifying new opportunities and exploring their potential. People are free to fail as long as a question is answered. Informal dress code and unlimited time off as long as work load is handled. CEO cares about work life balance and that employees have the opportunity to succeed. While the office space has been nicely decorated, working in a basement with little sunlight is not the best. The real way to grow here is by making it happen for yourself which isn't the ideal scenario for some. Upper Management wants people to prove that they should be promoted or earn more, but doesn't always provide the opportunity to do so.
