They will offer you the absolutele lowest amount of money they can get you for, and don’t care about their employees. Some people have gone 5+ years doing a decent job without raises. Good benefits, good people, reasonable expectations, relaxed atmosphere, minimal bureaucracy - all in a forward thinking Internet Streaming technology company that is coupled with high-technology Satellite Broadcasting. A good majority of the people that work here have been here for a long time, which speaks to RCN being a favorable place to work. There is some new blood in the company as well, bringing a breath of fresh air to the technology and culture. As you would expect in some of the support/NOC teams, the average length of employment is not quite as long, although the median tenure is still higher than average, once again speaking to the fact that there are more "Pros" than "Cons" to working at RCN. Supervisor’s that have no issue with yelling and cussing you out. Zero pay increases. Horrible benefits. Company cards that continuously get declined during business travel. They offer benefits (medical/vision dental/401k matching). The job is in a dark room monitoring screens. The hours can be difficult, Fridays and Saturdays are mandatory. The other people in this position seem to have been there for a while, leading me to believe there's little room for advancement. The job seems to garner little respect in the hierarchy of the company (and even from the uplink operators in the room), it's on the low end.
