Used to be interesting projects, people on teams really care about one another, remote work, you can make tons of money if you fit into one of the magical verticals (but expect to be discarded once the project ends)
|
Massive grind, seems to be losing its way, management only cares about money, exec team can't seem to care about anything other than billable hours (though they would never admit it), lots of talk about "caring about the talent" and being "talent led" but this is the worst kind of lip service- totally insincere
Generally, this place is a puppy mill. Tons of turnover, massive loss of the senior team, years of hiring to fill positions that are gone in 6 months. Probably really good if you're a contractor.

1. What brought me to this company was the unfair amount of high end talent. It has been refreshing to work with people I can count on and for once not feel like the smartest guy in the room.
2. Company Culture isn't just a talking point to get people in the door. Even as the company has grown and evolved we have held firmly to our core values
3. Support for remote workers back before it was cool (pre-pandemic).

The company really cares about is employees and looks out for them. The people there are fantastic. In my time there I never once worked with even an average engineer. Each person I worked with was always top quality.

R&P houses some of the most intelligent engineers I've ever met. They're heavily remote, so Slack plays an important role in day-to-day operations, which means questions, answers, advice, and other writings are discoverable. This is extremely useful as not only are the engineers great at their development jobs, but they're also fantastic teachers and mentors. I haven't had a chance to work with a lot of the designers (Pencils), but I've seen their work and it's also mind blowing. The folks working behind-the-scenes (HR-Types) are kind, helpful, and know their jobs inside and out.

Being remote 100% of the time isn't for everyone, and while they have offices in many places across North America, a large portion of employees are remote only. Of course, this means when Covid hit, those new to remote work had a trove of advice available to them.
