Since RL does everything to remove a negative posting, just know that is is a boys club. you will never succeed. The CEO is abusive.

The people that work there are good but the management is bad. The CEO is a bully. Join if you want but watch out.

A place to grow

Since starting at Rocket Lawyer, I have been given the opportunity to take on stretch projects outside of my daily responsibilities so that I can learn more about the business. I've really appreciated my manager's initiative to plan out how I can consistently learn and grow personally and within RL. This was important to me when deciding which place to work next, and it has exceeded my expectations.

It gets SUPER busy as we're in hyper-growth mode but management is still sympathetic to employees needing to take the time off that they want and need.

There are no major cons to note however that may be because I appreciate the fast paced ever evolving environment. Rocket Lawyer is growing extremely rapidly. Things can shift and change quickly. It is important to have an appreciation for rapidly scaling companies and a growth mindset working with RL.

I have to think hard on this one. Pay is not bad.

It's really a super toxic place. The toxicity starts from CEO. He is divisive and pits employees against each other to accomplish his agenda. Ironically, he thinks he is the best CEO out there and brags about his leadership every chance he gets -- whether it's in all-hands or in hallway conversations. If you want to know about this CEO's management style, you should read the book "The ride of a lifetime" by Bob Iger. This CEO is direct opposite to Bob Iger.
When the CEO says people are his greatest asset, don't get carried away! He is not referring you, he refers to the people in his inner circle. They can do whatever they want, all is forgiven.
I see there are so many glowing reviews in the last one year. Back in 2019, a HR recruiter raised concerns about many negative glassdoor reviews in all hands. CEO was very upset about that question and called glassdoor reviewers as "cowards". CFO got up and quoted Wall Street Journal article mentioning about companies forcing employees to write positive reviews. CEO captured that point and asked employees to write positive reviews. There was a dead drop silence among the audience! Now, I see a group of people keep posting positive reviews after any negative review is posted. If you look at review trend over last few years, you will see how obvious these fake reviews are.
Career growth is limited. If your manager does not have career growth, your career growth will go in a deep black hole. That's the kind of culture carefully cultivated and encouraged by the CEO.
If the CEO asks for feedback, don't give the feedback he does not want to hear. He will make your life difficult. You need to deal with retaliation afterwards.

I think they are a few companies where take care of the employees, where you can feel they look at you as part of the company, not only one resource more, that is how I feel working with Rocket Lawyer, and you have a great opportunity to learn, they are many technologies involve with RL (GCP, kubernetes, spring boot, scala, vertx, CI/CD). The engineers are really good and always open to support you as a team.

Maybe one cons is that depends for the project you will work in some layer you are not the expert, like you have backend knowledge but you will work 2 moths in ops task instead to code, but I can think this as a good point because it gives you the opportunity to learn and work with new technologies.
One point maybe import is to support with some training the Engineers to improve manage ability, it is something important to work as Engineer skills, so maybe find a good way to support the Engineer with some training.

At Rocket Lawyer, the mission, the culture, and the people truly make it feel like as if we are all working on building "rockets" to explore and push the boundaries of legal services for the masses. The authentic nature of the mission brings together truly authentic people. I was surprised and delighted by the amount of candid openness of all those I work with, which truly helps everyone do their jobs better and feel connected to the mission of the company.
It is also refreshing that my share of voice within the company is welcomed, celebrated, and actually equitable. It is as if we are all working on one big group project, with vested interest in what each person can contribute.
I look forward to the upcoming "rockets" we'll be launching soon.

If compared to larger more established organizations, do not expect the luxury of having access to broad resources (yet). Your best asset at times will be navigating how to create solutions efficient on the budget and having patience. Because leadership does care and actually listens to the needs of the organization, the pace of change and progress can be much quicker for business enablement, just don't bank on a dedicated team for what may be standard at a large mature company. Good news is, it looks like Rocket Lawyer is heading in the right direction.
