private:rttnews https://www.glassdoor.com?employer_id=901079 Apr 13th, 2018 12:00AM Open Open RTT NEWS Staff Writer Brooklyn, NY Avoid RTT News (If you like to get paid...) Provided a nice work-from-home side income for years until they downsized and owner/CEO took over day-to-day operations in December 2017. I had nothing but positive and professional experiences working with RTT News as staff writer and editor between 2009 and 2018. I had the same direct superior (who hired me) until December 2017, when he announced the company could no longer fund his position and he was being liquidated. The owner/CEO then followed up and said he would be assuming all day-to-day operations. Not long after I didn't get paid for a pay period. Assuming this was a glitch, I reached out to owner/CEO multiple times and got brushed off. After finally getting him on the phone he told me he was "at a trade show and didn't want to deal with any headaches." With some admitted frustration I reminded owner this "headache" is my income and it was very important that myself (and other unpaid writers) get our payroll. He became combative and told me "if you want to work for someone else that's fine, go ahead." My pay was 10 days late and short by over $100. I then realized all my paychecks going back three months were short and I had not received any hard pay stubs. I tried to rectify this amicably and give owner the benefit of the doubt, explaining "inconsistencies" in my paychecks, at which point he fired me saying he didn't want to work with people "who always have issues." At this point I was owed half a paycheck, plus back pay that I had been shorted. Owner started completely ignoring my correspondence and all my calls bumped to his voicemail, which was perpetually full. It was only after drafting a formal letter and threatening action through the New York State Board of Labor that I was paid. No further correspondence was received. -1.0 NEGATIVE -1.0 NEGATIVE 0.0 1.0 4.0 1.0 2.0 1.0 1.0 901079 Open Owner repeated told me "look I've had people working for me for 20 years, I always take care of my people." At this same time he would totally blow me off and take nearly a month to address the fact that I had been underpaid for the last three months. My advice (if RTT is even around any and hasn't collapsed) is to stop talking about how loyal your staff is and take action. If you have such a loyal group of surrogates and you're "so busy and traveling all the time," then delegate. Messing with income (of any amount) that people have earned is a recipe for disaster. My only other advice would, I suppose, be to lawyer up. If you're going to skim paychecks and miss payroll entirely you're going to get sued a lot. 0.0 [] CONTRACT No No 9.0 Apr 14th, 2021 08:22PM Apr 14th, 2021 08:22PM RTT News

Learned quite a bit during the time I was with the company. Plenty of opportunities to advance Great working environment, flexible hours and management is open to suggestions and feedback from everyone within the company. Overall positive experience and with potential to grow rapidly. Client relationships and followup meetings need to improve greatly. They need to do a better job with training, and providing more education over time. If you don't take on other responsibilities, the job can become monotonous. 0.0 4.0 5.0 4.0 4.0 0.0 0.0 901079 Open Needs to improve marketing efforts. 0.0 [] No No 0.0 Apr 14th, 2021 08:22PM Apr 14th, 2021 08:22PM RTT News
