Company review
|
|
Solid company with talented and friendly staff. Pretty good, efficient processes. Good management.
|
Not the most original of products. The games follow a somewhat predictable and simplistic formula, which doesn't make for fun game play.

Glory Days Long Gone
|
|
-The people are generally pleasant to work with.
-The office is conveniently located near a train station and the 101.
- Sometimes there are parties or social events, which can be really fun. They are usually really far apart though.
|
-The culture is extremely Corporate.
-The pay is well below market standard, even for gaming.
-Working from home is frowned upon.
-PTO/Sick Days/Vacation Days are heavily regulated
-Management has little grasp on the activity of the market, and is slow to adopt current trends.
-The company JUST pivoted to mobile in 2015.
-The financial stability of the company is often stressed over, with the company cutting costs at everywhere they can.
-There is a depressed air in the office, and morale is low.
-Churn is very high for new and old employees
-Hiring is very slow because they keep interviewing for full-time positions and then offering contracts instead. As a result, a lot of critical positions go unstaffed for too long.
-Promotions and senior titles aren't earned, but are handed out like candy to retain at-risk employees.

Start-ups are meant to have fun, be bold, and take risks. Rumble is slowly turning into another fast follow machine with no core aesthetic or heart. If the company does survive the next 6 months, please find your own voice in this crowded market.

Rumble has seen better days
|
|
This is the most transparent company I've ever worked at. Every other week there's a company meeting where the plans and future of the company are discussed. People are free to ask whatever questions they want and management will give honest answers - I've seen people ask questions about the financial stability of the company and get hard numbers thrown back at them. You won't be in the dark about any struggles the company might be going through, which is better than most gaming companies I've been at.
Aside from that, the people there are very smart and very hard-working. They also are good with work/life balance; the office is almost empty by 7pm, although many choose to work from home after hours. They are also willing to let you work from home 1-2 days out of the week.
|
Questionable choices in how to proceed as a free-to-play business. Rough financial times for the company meant that management buckled down on short-term financial gain at the expense of long-term success. They also stopped listening to feedback from developers who voiced any concerns. Being critical of your own game and having good debate about the direction of the game is healthy, but most of the "dissenting" voices left the company. It seems they only want people who won't question anything nowadays.
Rumble is full of talented people who are very serious about game development, to a fault in some cases. We've avoided hiring people in the past purely because they were too "enthusiastic". They seem to think that people who are extremely passionate about game development are somehow less professional. This shows in the games too; the devs are churning out content as quickly as they can, and that content doesn't feel like a lot of care was put into it, or made to feel special in any way.
Rumble's ideals have also fallen by the wayside. I was originally enticed to work here because Rumble's goal was to make F2P games that appealed to core gamers. We promised never to do the things in our games that pissed off core gamers, like adding superficial gates to content, energy mechanics, etc., yet these practices were all eventually adopted.
Lastly, the future of the company has been questionable for several months now; this has led to a lot of people either leaving or being laid off.

Stop looking to casual games for Rumble's business model, since core gamers hate that model. Forge your own path or look to successful F2P games in the core market for ideas.
Listen to developer feedback more. "Iteration" doesn't mean "release it to the public and then fix what's broken after people hate it," it should be caught beforehand. Be willing to scrap something and start over, and don't be so beholden to artificial deadlines.

Amazing place to work & launch your career
|
|
- They only hire the best. Work alongside brilliant and highly motivated people.
- Company is building some of the best products in free-to-play gaming and are years ahead of the competition.
- Leaders set you up for success and then get out of your way, so you are empowered to get things done (quickly) here.
- Well funded.
- Management team is highly experienced and has a great grasp of where the market is headed. Doesn't chase current trends like many other gaming companies do that turn them all in to copy-cats, but instead looks to invent the future.
|
- A bit more professional and less of a party-vibe than some other companies. Not really a con, but to some people that might be what they are looking for.

Collaborative Environment with a CEO that Leads by Example
|
|
CEO is forward looking and really listens to the employees. He's very good at raising money to allow the company to focus on quality for the products. There is a very collaborative culture at the company with top talent.
|
Trying to pave a new direction for digital entertainment with the Free-To-Play business model can be tough - there are a lot of experiments that need to happen. Be aware that this is an exciting but nerve wracking part of working at a leading gaming startup.
