Great for students out of college who want to travel
|
If you are stoked to travel and you want to work with kids, this is a great job for you but only for a couple years. The summers can be really intense with little to no turn around time between trips so burnout is very common.Every trip is different and it really depends on your relationship with your co-leader.

Lots of great staff fighting the fight with good intentions
|
I was surrounded by amazing staff working hard to deliver quality experiences to our customers. They walked the talk, supported each other and went above and beyond what the managers and company asked from them.
We couldn't say the same about all managers, however. Everybody had their own horror story to share.
Awesome outings, good kick off parties, pizza, BBQ. Good times.

Organization doesn't value employees and protects poor leadership
|
Rustic Pathways relies on young, flexible, and excited people working for low wages to get the job done. It's a great job for a year or two but relies on fun culture and travel opportunities (many of which have since been removed) to outweigh the low pay and lack career advancement and professional opportunities. There is little to no room for career growth and any side projects - including important ones like a Diversity, Equity, and Inclusivity Committee - are not prioritized. Recently, the company grossly mishandled a layoff of nearly 30 people without any prior notice or decent compensation. The culture of family and trust was a sham and only profits were prioritized, as well as the protection of the leadership, the same team that led layoffs three years prior. None of them were removed for their clear mishandling of the company yet they were offered the decency of a small pay cut or notice to leave in advance.

Things have changed
|
Rustic has recently been sold, so quite a few changes have been implemented and many more are coming. I can't speak to the new owners, but I am disappointed with many of the changes and can only hope for the best.

Rustic Pathways is the type of company that relies on young professionals leaving college for low wages and lots of excessive relying on young excitement and low pay to get the job done. It's a great job for a year or two as it's fun and exciting, but horrible for career advancement and professional opportunities.
