Working for S2M now almost a year and starting as an Intern like everyone in this company (except founder and HR as I understood!), I can honestly say it's been an exciting, interesting and instructive time so far.
I started with just little working experience - especially in a startup environment. But by being a part of this fast-developing startup has taught me more than any “intern job” in a big corporation probably would’ve been able to. Yes, things can be challenging at times due to changes of processes and people as in any young company, so an adaptive and flexible mindset are vital. But if you’re willing to learn and be a part of a constantly evolving working environment, I can honestly recommend giving it a try. Some of the pro's in my opinion:
- The obvious: A modern, bright office in the heart of Barcelona. Meeting great people from all over the world. Picnic area with fridge, freezer, free (good) coffee, a juicer, free breakfast and lunch once a month, after- work activities at times such as volleyball.
- Compensation: Strongly depends on your perspective but as it’s an internship AND it’s in Spain, I feel the compensation is realistic and really fair. Most internships in this city are even unpaid, especially in startups. Besides, if you get promoted (which I’ve seen people doing after only a few months if they do well and would like to stay), the compensation rises.
- Learnings: As an intern, I got to take over responsibility from the beginning; not doing a “coffee” internship. Some people described the tasks as repetitive, which honestly – if you’re not trying to improve them, u might feel like you’re doing similar things all day; but then that’s entirely up to you. I tried to be proactive and got promoted after just 6 months; now leading a small team, have new tasks and still learning.
- Life/ work balance: I really don’t get how people stated this as negative as working 9-6 is normal, overtime is NOT requested (nor desired) and after work u can head straight to the beach or a bar with your peers. Like seriously, it’s a good life. 😊
|
- Communication: As mentioned by some former colleagues, internal communication is still lacking at times which can lead to frustration and feeling “stuck”. And yes, sometimes u will just have to accept the fact that you’re part of a startup and not everything goes smoothly yet. If you expect a perfectly running company with fix processes in place that will allow everything to run without any hassle at all times, S2M is not for you. But if you can accept that there are changes, that processes are still improving and bring your own ideas in how to do better; again, I can recommend it.

Keep doing the great work, really listen to people’s feedbacks and make them a priority. Mix people from different departments sometimes and make them get to know each other in whatever way, to strengthen mutual understanding. Most people really know you try your best and I’ve seen so many positive changes since I started, so overall more than happy being part of this company. Especially thanks to HR for always having an open ear. Also, for the breakfasts and pizza. And a freezer to put my ice cream.

- Young and multicultural collaborators (makes sense: intern farm)

- EXTREME TRESS & PRESSURE

- Very LOW salary
- No work/life balance, unrealistic amounts of work, 9am to 6pm (unrealistic soo you have to stay veery late)
- No personal growth (u'll do the same tedious tasks every day/week/year)
- Weird vibe between interns and employees: coz interns get the hell out after their 6 months, full time employees do not try to exchange with them anymore
- Very high turnover (people leaving after 3 days!!)
- Bad Training (u'll be expected to be fully operational with "tutos"..)
- Very bad middle managers (called LBDR) (no care, no help, just the results of the campaigns, liked upper management tho, good expertise!)
- Bad communication, too much centralization
- Suspiciously very positive reviews here on Glassdoor :/

I don't know where to start, stop doing everything to turn young bright minds into simple tools doing extremely repetitive and tedious tasks. They are the one suffering from this overcapitalistic business model doing everything to save a dime including squizzing all the juice out of the interns before throwing them away with just basic Lead Generation skills! The world is changing towards a more sustainable approach of business, where employees are actually considered as people, try learning from it!
