The shine is beginning to dull

The people are really nice. But at this point, the cracks are starting to show and even with the WFH benefit, you wonder if it's worth it.
|
This is a "luxury mattress" company that nickels and dimes their employees.
• CEO talks a good game, but management sets stupidly high profit-sharing goals based on EBITDA and then shrugs their collective shoulders when it fails to meet them.
• The company has no problem spending tens of millions of dollars on acquiring a new company. It has no problem spending millions of dollars on its retail locations. But when it comes to paying its employees, whether through raises or promotions or bonuses, "cheap" comes to mind.
• Employees are very obviously not as important as they're told. Company will readily find money for things it thinks are. Employee compensation is obviously not. It's treated like a cost to manage, not an investment in the success of the company.
• Employees are talking, and they're not happy. If management thinks this isn't an issue, I think they're going to be very surprised in the near term with regards to employees leaving.
• While WFH is nice, company has a stupidly low number of allotted holidays. Only 6 paid holidays. Just 1 day for Thanksgiving and 1 day for Christmas.
• Company doesn't celebrate MLK Jr. Day because it's so obviously not important to the CEO. The head of HR will then embarrassingly suggest that if employees feel so inclined, they can use their personal vacation days to take off for MLK or Juneteenth. It's one of the most cringe-inducing corporate exchanges I've witnessed. The caucasity.

If you say you want to "hire the best" and "are building leaders" then you better start walking the walk because the talk isn't cutting it anymore. Based on their actions, Saatva management doesn't want "the best" What they really want are talented employees who undervalue themselves so the company can pay them less than they're worth. You can't expect "loyalty" and then stiff people on their salaries while you're handing out fistfuls of cash for the things you think are important.

I was delighted to attend the quarterly town halls with Ron our chief officer. I appreciate his honesty when it came to financial results and when we are heading into economic headwinds. The Finance Department is well put together and does well with treating the team well and leading towards our objectives.
|
These are truly some of the most expensive Healthcare benefits I've ever seen. Saatva is far behind in being able to contribute well to health plans. There is a lot of encouragement to go into the cheapest plan, but that plan doesn't even have co-pays for docs. The company asks for almost $300 month from you just for a sinlge employee plan on the cheapest one. Saatva benefits need to be reviewed. The one part of the town hall I dislike the most is when the Human Resource Manager would celebrate benefits but they aren't great. Her team needs to advocate more for the people.
