BEWARE: The vast majority of editor training (a good 12 hours) is unpaid and requires watching hours of online videos that are slides with narration. I completed the training, including spending about 9 hours watching the cold email course. In addition to that, they announced a mandatory *unpaid* online training session for all editors. All told, I put in about 15 hours and only made $100 for the final exercise. I'll let you do the math. After all that, Heather told me they had put a "pause" on assigning work to new editors because they're changing their "training and internal processes" and that she'd hopefully have an update this month. Hopefully? In short, Heather took up a huge chunk of my time, most of it unpaid, and then brushed me off. Guidance from an editor would have been helpful, but instead, I was shoved away and told that I simply missed the mark and that you all didn't know what to do with me. The community is full of positive people who take their work seriously, but still enjoy goofing around with each other. The fact that the work is completely remote is huge -- I can complete my projects wherever I please (today I'm working from my home office. Next week, I'll be working from France)! This isn't a con for me personally, but it could be a con for people who are accustomed to corporate life: you need to be 1) extremely self-directed, and 2) a very proactive communicator to succeed with Salesfolk. Since the team is small, everyone is busy. As a new team member, you'll get all the resources and attention you need to ensure you're successfully onboarded. But after that, it's your responsibility to check in with the editor on the status of your project, to let the team know when you will/won't be available for revisions, and to speak up if you have questions or need help. If you can manage these three things, you'll love Salesfolk.
