Everyone was very welcoming and they produce great work. The Tribune was going through a transition period between editors, so things were a little disorganized, but it seemed like they were getting things pulled together at the end of my internship. Pay for interns isn't great. 1.0 POSITIVE 0.0 5.0 5.0 5.0 5.0 3.0 5.0 248708 Open 0.0 [] INTERN No No 1.0 Apr 15th, 2021 07:53PM Apr 15th, 2021 07:53PM Salt Lake Tribune

private:saltlaketribune https://www.glassdoor.com?employer_id=248708 May 17th, 2018 12:00AM Open Open The Salt Lake Tribune Web/Graphic Designer Salt Lake City, UT this poor company is dying The Salt Lake Tribune has a really great supportive culture. The fellow employees are down to earth. Very few tricks and schemes. Because of the knowledgeable and respectful point of view of journalists, this is a very safe place to work. The head editor is mindful of everyone and has an open door policy. This company is dying. Sure, you can blame it on the industry but, with the method that was chosen to prioritize digital, it was clear, the management and owner is out of touch with reality. Rather than ask the people on their payroll for advice or help with improving the web presence, the company consulted and hired professionals outside the organization. There was no mention of how the web presence was going to change to anyone within the organization until the changes themselves came. They paid a lot of money to outside consultants when internal experts were already on their payroll. This also meant that there wasn't enough communication available to the existing staff with the outside consultants. Some of these outside consultants did tasks that internal employees were already capable of and some of these outside consultants had major flaws that the non-technical minds of those in charge over looked. -1.0 NEGATIVE -1.0 NEGATIVE 0.0 3.0 2.0 5.0 1.0 1.0 3.0 248708 Open If you want to keep this paper alive, stop calling it a paper. Call it an online news source. Hire a CTO with actual technical experience. Make real investments in the digital product which means hiring and keeping people with technical skills. Programmers and web developers are the future printing press operators and page layout professionals. It's 2018! private:saltlaketribune https://www.glassdoor.com?employer_id=248708 Aug 11th, 2016 12:00AM Open Open The Salt Lake Tribune Salt Lake City, UT Talented, passionate staff... Everyone I came in contact with cared so much about their work, learned a lot from the talented news team. Very sink or swim! Be prepared to come with ideas of your own and make them happen. The team will work with you to make this happen, but don't wait around for stories to find you. 1.0 POSITIVE 0.0 NEUTRAL 0.0 4.0 2.0 5.0 4.0 3.0 5.0 248708 Open With any newspaper, it's a rough industry. People are territorial over beats, which is understandable. I just think the paper could get better material if folks were willing to share the workload on certain beats. 0.0 [] INTERN No No 0.0 Apr 15th, 2021 07:53PM Apr 15th, 2021 07:53PM Salt Lake Tribune
private:saltlaketribune https://www.glassdoor.com?employer_id=248708 May 3rd, 2016 12:00AM Open Open The Salt Lake Tribune Copy Editor/Page Designer Salt Lake City, UT A Paper in Flux The editors and other copyeditors were awesome—even if they were grumpy, cynical and underpaid journalists. They cared deeply about their work and pushed me to be my best. Job-insecurity, job-insecurity, job-insecurity. It is hard to be creative in such a place or to try new things when the stakes are so high. 1.0 POSITIVE 1.0 POSITIVE 0.0 4.0 3.0 4.0 2.0 3.0 4.0 248708 Open Keep up the good work. 0.0 [] REGULAR No No 1.0 Apr 15th, 2021 07:53PM Apr 15th, 2021 07:53PM Salt Lake Tribune

private:saltlaketribune https://www.glassdoor.com?employer_id=248708 Jul 24th, 2015 12:00AM Open Open The Salt Lake Tribune Salt Lake's best newspaper Some of the most brilliant, funny people in the state work here. And they all care deeply about the beats they cover. The Trib has been behind on virtually all things digital, from the quality of their website to video to social media. The toxic JOA with the D-News means the doors could close at any moment. 1.0 POSITIVE -1.0 NEGATIVE 0.0 4.0 2.0 4.0 3.0 2.0 4.0 248708 Open I'm sincerely hoping the paper is bought by someone who will allow the journalists who work here do what they do best. Once the financial situation is less dire, the Trib needs to double down on investing in a true digital strategy, rather than trying to translate what worked for print into digital presentations. 0.0 [] No No 6.0 Apr 15th, 2021 07:53PM Apr 15th, 2021 07:53PM Salt Lake Tribune
