Not great pay and often horrible assignments
|
The people I work with are nice enough and they make sure you get enough breaks. The pay is not that great and they only give you two free tickets a year. There are a lot of cliques and most are based on seniority. Its a union job so seniority is everything...my first day I started, a co-worker came up to me and informed me he had been working there 16 years and there was no way I was going to get his position, not even once. Some grumpy older co-workers also will get in your ear every now and then and try to get at you. The manager and most captains are sincere and good leaders. There is one that is really toxic and I dread working for this person. There is no employee parking so you have to park in a garage and get reimbursed for fees. Most nights I get to watch the games. The fans are pretty good for the most part. Sometimes you get assigned to an elevator...this may be a deal breaker for me going forward. There is no way Im gonna sit in an elevator all night with COVID 19. We'll see how that works out.

Fantastic Place to work

I love my job with the Padres! A typical day at work is helping out our Season Ticket Members with any problems that they may have. I have learned how to use multiple CRM interfaces which is a very useful skill. The workplace culture is amazing, everyone is fun and is willing to help in any way possible. I intend to stay with them as long as I can.

Great Place to Start if You Want to Work in Sports
|
I personally have loved my entire experience working for the Padres. I work in Event Operations which has really opened my eyes to the type of work that I would like to do as a long term career. It has also allowed me to be in a better position to get a full-time job, hopefully within the organization. The management in the Event Operations department is amazing & really has your best interest in mind. They understand that Event Operations is not a life long job for anyone & they are really helpful at getting young adults ready to broaden their horizons & move on to bigger & better things in sports.
The bosses in Event Operations are super helpful & encouraging which makes for an enjoyable work day. The other employees in this department are also young & energetic which makes going to work most days rather fun.
The hardest part of the job is probably the physical labor that goes into but its nothing that would make me shy away from a challenge. Definitely would not recommend the job to someone who is not comfortable lifting at most 50 pound items on a daily basis. Another difficult aspect of the job is the long work days. Most times there is a call time, not always is there an end time. So one who wants to apply should be prepared to work a decent amount of hours at any given event.
My most enjoyable part of the job is definitely the fact that I am getting paid, essentially to watch baseball & work in a ball park. Its an amazing opportunity & a one-of-a-kind job that you can't find anywhere else in the world. I also just really love sports so its a win-win for me!

Its a seasonal job, mostly at night and during the weekends.
You have to be able to stand and walk for long hours.
You also have to really enjoy to be surrounded for a lot of people.
You have to be patient and willing to repeat the same information and/or directions over and over again.
