I would check the lobby for cleanliness, sign off on invoices and start putting away deliveries. Throughout the work week, there would be several days I came in early for meetings, inventory and events prep or set up. I conducted brief check- ins with my employees at the start of every shift, then I'd assign tasks accordingly to optimize time efficiency and effectiveness with day to day tasks. After checking on completed assignments, I'd work directly with Front of House and Box Office to coordinate opening the theater and begin happy hour at the bar. Once the show would go up, I worked constructively with my staff to clean and reset the lobby, maintain presentation of restrooms, restock the bar and VIP lounge, prepare pre-ordered drinks, assist Front of House with any tasks and tend to any repairs or fixes. After the show let out, we engaged with patrons nightly in helping with lost items, special needs or requests and connecting over the live performance before executing close down procedures. I oversaw register and Point of Sales close out, nightly drops, locking up and preparing the bar for next shift. My department interacted face to face with hundreds of our patrons on a weekly basis which prompted a dedication to outstanding experiences and meritorious customer service. All of this dedication was heavily propelled by the rewarding experience of working with all the management teams. Not only did this help me to better understand my management style but to also be flexible, open and learn how to work with others. Among the essential skills I learned were effectual communication, conflict management, the importance of giving your employees the tools they need to succeed, accountability in the workplace, optimizing procedures such as organization, inventory, incident reports and safety, troubleshooting on the spot with optimal outcomes and working together with fellow coworkers who had various work methods. Our management team grew tremendously over the time I worked for the Playhouse and was able to establish better policy and guidelines company-wide. With change comes growing pains, which were beneficially overcome thanks to the unyielding support from supervisors and department heads during these transitions. With everything given, it's crucial to point out how heavily this played into the workplace culture. Whether someone was just starting with the company or had been there for years, there was always space for aid and refuge. In order to bring all the departments together the Playhouse adopted employee positive interactions such as Taste Test Friday, holiday parties, bonuses, promoting from within, team building exercises, open door policies and monthly staff meetings that always started with introducing new employees. While workplace culture harmony was important, I can't neglect the difficulties I faced. Some of the harder parts to my job orbited around the company's growth and change. Communication between departments had a lot of gaps that made it toilsome, though not impossible, to navigate. It was a learning curve for all but allowed our offices to come together. Another aspect was the continuing employment of difficult workers. While we can't win them all, it was a drawback for several departments as we were stuck in the cycle of needing staff yet having unreliable and challenging employees. Learning to work with others various work methods truly came in hand here. I'm thankful that these two matters seemed to be the only bumps I encountered, as they were a large part of my improvement with managing. Which leads to some of the best parts of my job. I was given a lot of free range and trust to seek out new vendors, change bar foods and beverages, locate new event venues and present unique ideas. I took pride in being the point person for events, sticking to demanding timelines and coming up with innovative ways to plan an event while meeting a budget. The hurdles that came only furthered my desire to perform better and at an exceptional level. I appreciate my previous supervisor for allowing me to grow from my mistakes and give guidance when I needed it most. Because I was given room to fall and get back up, I'm fully capable of taking on jobs with deep commitment, fierce tenacity and an unbeatable drive to mobilize a company to it's utmost potential. Years later I still look back at that experience as one of the most positive times in my young adult life. Highly highly recommend reaching out and applying. The staff is helpful and generously donate work to be done.
