management vacuum

Some of the people are good to work with.
|
There is a management vacuum. The children left minding the store don't have a clue what they are doing. They are going to get in big trouble if they start getting audited by their customers.

Good and Bad
|
|
Not a bad place to work. Benefits are very good. Very positive things going on. Improving financially.
|
Do not feel comfortable going to upper management with issues. One bad apple can spoil the whole bunch. Some members of mid and upper management are very intimidating and unprofessional. No trust with upper management. Negativity towards different teams or branches. Favoritism within departments. Unsure of job security No work life balance at all. Low Pay, not up to market standards.

Was a great company before sold off to private equity
|
Too many changes away from core business model that made group of companies profitable, now just looking to make changes to sell for a profit. Corporate staff just a bunch of high paid friends of CEO.

Disappointing
|
|
Has a good group of well versed 10+ years account managers that are friendly and willing to help others. Support staff is the same.
Nice facilities to work in.
|
Management is more interested in control and numbers than they are the well being of employees. Pretend to be interested in input only to shut it down. Has way to many chiefs and not enough Indians. Some in position of change are biased and have clicks that they only entertain advice from. Does not promote those with sound experience. Instead they promote the younger, less knowledgeable, 'cheaper' employees. Needs help structuring procedures and sticking to them

Do not belittle those who have been with the company 10+ years. Instead put the phone down and actually listen to what they have to say. Key to any successful company is happy employees.. Thus happy customers
Focus on Improving Warehouse functions
Create solid processes for paper flow, procedures etc and stick to them.
Stop focusing on your next trip, golf game and start working on creating a cohesive crew where accountability is not just required by few but demanded by everybody.
And most importantly - Customer service matters not management titles

Frustrating
|
|
Fair compensation, with fair and competitive benefits. Nice work facility, there are fringe benefits that exist within segments of the organization.
|
Poor management, lack of organizational discipline, no accountability or sense of order. Absolutely zero transparency. It's a decent place to have a job, but not some where to pursue a long term career. Not much growth from within.

Talk with your people, don't talk at them. Focus on managing channel conflicts, as opposed to ignoring them and letting things work out on their won. It creates animosity and hostilely instead of internal competition. Be more transparent with your teams to give them a better understanding of their purpose.

If you join the sales team is a disjointed insides sales team and a management apathy to convert sales.

Poor warehouse leadership
Poor upper management
Lack of vision or direction
Lack of awareness for lower level employees
Secretive upper management (hoarding of knowledge)

Listen to your sales people. They are the ones on the ground and are plugged into what the market and competition is doing. Know what they are doing.
Pay attention to those putting in the effort to try and generate revenue in new ways. You will need to adapt to a changing market if you don't want to go under. Don't be afraid of new ideas. Adapt or die.
Quit being secretive on what your goals are. People aren't mind readers and need clear direction and leadership.
Shore up your processes and make sure that everyone knows what they are responsible for. This would be one of my larger complaints, as everything is pushed back on sales. How it is a salesperson's fault that the warehouse did not ship, or shipped the wrong material, product when they were supposed to is beyond me.
Get your warehouse in order to prevent the wrong material from being shipped and to alleviate the apathetic attitudes that exist within the warehouse workforce.
Quit spending money on lavish trips for upper management while complaining about your paper budget.
The market/people isn't the same as it was 20-40 years ago. Recognize that and recognize people who understand that and who want to help.
It's hard for your employees to care about the company if you clearly don't care about it or them.
This company is trying to wait out the economic downturn. They have poor leadership all the way to the top. They squandered the opportunity to clean up their processes which would have saved them dollars in the long run. Instead they opted to go over budget on everything from new facilities to moving material from the old warehouse to the new one. They've made misstep after misstep. Now, they are trying to stay afloat until they can sell and will continue to lose market share due to poor customer experience and missing deadlines.
No one in upper management or the warehouse is held accountable. They expect you to do the work of 10 people for the pay of one. They provide no support for sales staff unless they are projects, and even then they cannot get the right material out on time.
No bonuses or raises, unless you're upper management.
