Smartcar is a team with bright, young people. They try really hard to create their idea of an inclusive environment. Seems to have hired more sales talent recently, which can only be good for acquiring more customers.

One of the things that stuck out to me the most was the lack of senior talent here, founders included. Many members of this company were hired straight out of college. I found myself worried at times that this company wouldn't be able to find product market fit before running out of capital. I personally found the work environment quite boring, and I wish the engineering team moved more quickly. Also, I notice that many of the reviews were written by current employees, so I would take them with a grain of salt.

Up your pay offers to attract more senior talent. Care less about writing perfect code at this stage of the company's lifecycle; instead worry more about what changes will drive business impact. Consider using languages other than Node and JavaScript, and at least add static typing to the stack.

- extremely intelligent team!
- thoughtful engineers (none of that "move fast and break things" culture you will find at other startups)
- easy insight into all parts of the company (business, marketing, etc) even as a software engineer
- management cares personally about everyone's growth
- a lot of ownership and responsibility, even when just joining

- everyone loves coming in to work... which means long hours! But it is all by choice.

I can't say enough positive things about Smartcar's culture. It's a friendly, welcoming place to work without much hierarchy. Leadership has played a big role in fostering that environment.
Employee buy-in is high. People are genuinely enthusiastic about the product and the work itself can be very interesting.
The company is engineering-focused and hires talented people. Best-practices are followed and modern tools are used. That, combined with the company's size, makes it easy to do good work.

Smartcar is the best company I've ever worked for. They have a great product and an awesome work culture. Everyone on the team is kind, helpful, genuine, and very smart. The managers offer great support and career growth opportunities. I can highly recommend Smartcar to anyone who wants to work for an interesting, innovative startup.

Hours can be long at times, due to the fact that the team is focused on getting the product off the ground as quickly as possible without compromising on quality. But the work is interesting and the team is fun, so it doesn't feel like work.
