Sofar Sounds started off as a true community-focused organization built from the grounds up. There is a passion behind most people who work there that is hard to find. Everyone had a "we're in this together" mentality and was scrappy, hard-working, creative and passionate in the pursuit of bringing people together and supporting artists.
|
Sofar's culture has sadly drastically changed in the past 1.5 years, with a focus off of the community that built the company. The culture is not transparent, and employees receive wildly varying salaries with no clear understanding of how to get promotions or raises. The current leadership team has never actually put on a Sofar show, and is almost exclusively white and male. They do not value the community or culture, and make consistently disappointing leadership decisions.

Inspiring place to work

The company is full of people who seem to go above and beyond in hitting goals, making shows happen and pivoting especially when the virus hit.
Very transparent and open about where Sofar is heading.
Great to work with people all over the world who really believe in the mission to help artists connect with audiences.
WFH before the virus hit. Get to wear a lot of hats and touch many parts of the business. Great people.

Certainly been a tough time to be a live music company but feel like everyone has done as much as they can to make sure Sofar can survive.

I think they've done as much as anyone can to keep our business going when we've effectively been shut down. I know the CEO and Chairman both went to zero salary when we had to stop our shows. I'm hopeful for the future of Sofar and would imagine this review would be quite different without the pandemic.

Most everyone there is passionate and really love what Sofar produced night after night. Open WFH policy pre-corona, unlimited vacation. Network of people worldwide for when you travel

Leadership is almost exclusively old white males making 2-4x what directors in cities are making.
Very silo'd approach, hard to get things cross-functionally
witnessed some insanely sexist behavior, women getting paid less, and some things worse...
current product can't produce real revenue, and is one of many "streaming" only options
