Cons: Textbook boring office environment. No one talks or wants to ruffle any feathers. Even new products and revamps seem 10 years out of date and the company seems to get in its own way more than anything. The company really does try to be a "cool" office, but just seems to miss the mark 9/10 times. Just nothing SofterWare does seems to matter at all and that doesn't make me happy to go into work.
Pros: Everyone is treated fairly and most people are very kind. Great benefits and fair pay. If you have a hectic life and want a stable, easy- going job where nothing ever ramps up, then this is the place for you.

Great Experience

Great place to work, family environment first few years, transitioned to more corporate culture as the company grew. Company offered profit sharing which is not a standard in today's work place.

Good people, poor management
|
Softerware is a company that means well, and they treat their customers well. As for their employees, it's a mixed bag.
The work environment when I was there was good most of the time, but not great. Benefits were below average.
It is a decent company for a young person hoping to come in at the ground floor and work their way up.
The real problem was that their management team was spread thin, and not well trained. They did a poor job managing workloads, leading to high turnover rates for web designers and technical writers, who were perpetually overworked. Their managers tended to be "people persons." They were good at customer service, and talking to people, but bad at problem solving.
Better companies put more effort into constantly training their managers, because good managers don't just walk in the door. They are an asset that you create and build on every year.
SofterWare operates more on the level of "we hire good people," which is nice, but not really enough.

Terrible place to work.
|
Everything moves slow at softerware. Quality in work product is an ultra low priority -- and when I brought this to light to my supervisor and his manager -- I got called in to speak with HR. The first issue was "too many emails." I was treated as a blacksheep when I sent important emails that were rooted in facts and tied to best practices. The second issue resulted in my contractual completion and I didn't even get a chance to reconcile, hand over my work, nor say goodbye to the few friends I made there. Stay away from working here or dealing with them. They care more about hierarchy than quality.

Was a great temporary option during major Economic crisis on 2008
|
When my Management job was eliminated in 2009, I was blessed to be hired by SofterWare. It was never met to be a permanent position but it served the purpose until I found what I really wanted to do.
|
Incentive program, flexible hours, convenient location
|
Not my career choice, lateral position with no supervisory responsibilities for me, not what I wanted to do

Successful software company
|
Employment at SofterWare has been an interesting experience. The company has experienced significant growth since it began 30+ years ago. Many of the senior folks have moved their way through the ranks to be in their current leadership position. While this is beneficial for personal/professional advancement of the employees it does not allow for alternative ideas and experiences to infuse the company with even greater success. As they have grown they continue to do business as if they are a "small" company which probably put them on a slower course towards success. Instead of reevaluating problems and opportunities there is a common practice implementing minor workarounds to achieve goals, many of which are not clearly defined. The work environment is pleasant and enjoyable.

Growing small to mid-size company
|
Typical 40-hour office space. Below par call center. Product training is great but communication training is little for entry-level technicians. Mostly enjoyable coworkers - nearly everyone is friendly. Benefits are great but salary is a little below market.
|
Little micromanagement in daily tasks, Great benefits and bonus opportunities, Friendly coworkers but lack ambition
|
Not much career advancement, Little tuition reimbursement, Staff not ambitious, too conservative to take risks
