You get to work with multiple technologies in a variety of projects across different business verticals. One 3 month project you may be working on a Healthcare app, then you may work 6 months on an Education app, then you may work 1 month on a marketing app. This may seem a bit hectic to some, but it's great because you are never in a "maintenance" mode. You are always working on developing something new; and are always learning about different technologies and different businesses. Leadership embraces new ideas and likes to hear from all of the employees what they can do to do better. There has been a concerted effort to improve every aspect of the business. Quality is extremely important. We aren't just focused on making sure the application we are developing simply works. We strive to make sure the Quality of that applications exceeds our client's expectations. WFH/Time off is very flexible. It’s very rare to find a company that believes and invests in their Marketing department 100%. When I joined the company, they were starting from scratch, building the marketing department with myself and another Marketing Manager. They welcomed the two roles with open arms and were eager to hear ideas and ways to increase their lead generation. This came not only from the VP and President but all throughout the leadership team. It was also refreshing to work hand-in-hand with a Sales team that actually kept their Salesforce opportunities up to date! (This never happens!) From an employee engagement/culture side, you can tell that Veanne and Tim genuinely care about their team. They listen to their employees’ needs and take action to them (IE Adding WFH days). From the Lunch n Learns to the potlucks to Braves games and happy hours, there were a lot of opportunities to engage your colleagues that I feel a lot of other companies miss the mark on. It was also nice that they were very understanding of the parent life as I’m a single mother and there were a few times I needed to bring my little one in, which they were completely supportive of. The office is located in the Buckhead Salesforce tower which is conveniently located to some great restaurants in addition to their lobby cafe. I always felt heard and valued in my role. All-in-all, it was a great environment to work in but ultimately it wasn’t a fit for me as it related to my overall career progression. Traffic can be a bit bad, depending on where you live, especially during the holiday season. Where to begin? SOLTECH is an organization riddled with gossip and bias from the top of the chain down. The company and its leaders lack integrity, transparency, and honest direction / growth for their employees. The lack of clear communication, combined with unspoken expectations from the leadership team, leaves employees feeling set up for failure from the very beginning. The turnover rate is also extremely high; during my somewhat short tenure there, I saw at least a dozen employees get fired suddenly without cause, and many, many others leave on their own accord. It is rare to see someone last there more than 1 year. Diversity and Inclusion are not priorities for SOLTECH, and the lack of cultural diversity is beyond blatant. It goes without saying that the environment is extremely toxic, and Leadership cares first and foremost about sucking every last penny out of their clients when it comes to both consulting projects and staffing needs. SOLTECH prides itself on its culture, which is ever fleeting because of how frequently employees are cycled through the organization. There is no real sense of culture and community, and new positions are almost always filled with new people, not from within. Leadership is not focused whatsoever on developing their employees and helping them to grow in their careers, because they’re so used to having people work there for such a short time. People are numbers to them, and nothing more; the employees know this, so they are constantly worried about where they stand. During my time at the company we consistently produced code that utilized the latest frameworks, optimizations, and data architectures which fit the requirements for the software we were building. We also took time to explain to clients why we chose specific tools to complete the required tasks at hand and worked with their development teams to produce code that would have a healthy shelf life once it was released to our clients. Due to the flat hierarchy of the company, it was easy to collaborate with experts across the tech stack and learn from each other on various projects. The people at SOLTECH were my favorite part of working there. We were able to build some very exciting applications, and everyone on my teams did their part to support each other and collaborate to get the job done well and on-time. The teams I worked with were always reasonable with each other about flex hours and work from home days, and for the most part we had a lot of freedom to manage our own schedules as long as we got the job done. I very much appreciated this. Professional development funds were also provided to each employee to be spent on conferences, continuing education, or other initiatives to further each person's growth in their field. SOLTECH is not a huge enterprise. Instead, it is a small dedicated tech firm that prides itself on punching above its weight in the enterprise-level jobs it is able to take on for its clients. The margins you would find in regard to on-the-job perks and corporate benefits packages at a mega corporation will not be found here. Really about it Owners do not do a good job of managing projects and working with clients to get the best requirements they can. Half the time the "designs" that are made and sent to the customer are not even what is delivered. They also try to cheap out on their employees. There has been several "mass exodus'" from engineers due to how un-prepared / uninformed they are about the project. There is a lot of downtime to learn. There are opportunities to work with different types of technology. I rarely felt over worked. The culture is constantly dwindling, but it remains fresh because of the high turnover rate. They have lunch and learns. They occasionally schedule happy hours and sporting events for the sake of team building. Whenever Soltech acquired a large project with a larger budget, they would standup quality processes that is acceptable for a development environment. My time at Soltech was generally a positive experience, but it is not a place I could thrive at and be the best version of myself. Soltech is a consulting tech firm. Thus, the employees can potentially suffer from this business model. If the client's project has a low budget, there is no guarantee for a quality development process. I estimate over seventy percent of the projects I worked on lacked in quality assurance, processes, requirements and organization. If there is not enough budget for a project manager, UI/UX Designer, QA engineer or just a second developer, you will be expected to fill in all the gaps. Otherwise, there was never enough work to keep me busy. I do not mind a little downtime, but I would not be on a project for as long as three to four months. It was painstakingly boring. Since there is no guarantee of working on a consistent project, you will be thrown around like a rag doll between projects with no depth. It is soul crushing if you are motivated to push yourself and your career. There is zero process in place for code reviews, retrospectives or consistent feedback for the team and yourself. You only get two performance reviews a year. I was left extremely isolated the entire time I worked here. I asked for these things to be put in place, but it is not a realistic priority for them. When coworkers left Soltech, instead of promoting people from within, they would almost always hire a new employee. Everything here is a gamble. They lowball their clients to win the bid. The employees have to take the hit for the lack of clairvoyance from management. Many times I was told to "get ahead" and "start working" before SOW's were signed and before requirements were remotely defined. It resulted in a lot of wasted work. It was the consistent struggle of "hurry up and wait."
