Generally good people, but expect more from employees than is reasonable
|
Most of the people here are positive and fun to work with. Fun environment but expectations are quite unreasonable for some positions. I've worked in three different yet related departments; the first was very laid-back and very repetitive so I looked for something a little more challenging. The next department was a good fit, however they forced out a great boss and replaced them with one that was cold, uncaring, and spoke down to people. I moved on again to a small department with two other really good people, but as I was in the interview process, they changed a portion of the job to include duties that was equivalent to a second 3/4 to full-time position. My boss has been empathetic, but does not provide any real help. I've basically had a nervous breakdown and asked for more help to avail. Upper management doesn't care about their employees and how much work is assigned to them. All three of us in this department are extremely overwhelmed with the duties assigned and expected. This department has taken on much more responsibility and workloads over the past 6-8 years, with no increase to staff. Partially because the boss will not stand-up for the department, this person is a "yes man" and near retirement so will not fight for the department.

Caring coworkers, most people in the area try to make it fun and uplifting. Lunches out (pre-covid), celebration of birthdays and accomplishments.

I don't recommend working here. As the only female on staff in my department it was very difficult. The management doesn't care about the people only about results.

I learnt that good planning is very important to complete the project. More things could be learnt from the failure compare to success. Workplace culture was awesome at Davis Dairy Plant and Laboratory of Dairy and Food Science Department, SDSU.

Great benefits, low wages
|
I obtained many new skill sets and had wonderful coworkers, and some supportive managers. The starting wage was low and did not increase much in five years, however the health and retirement benefits are great, as well as holidays/vacation/sick leave ample.
