There is a quarterly bonus program. Internal structure is fairly well organized and stable. They have a neck for hiring good people who know what they are doing. They are very considerate to their employees and contractors. Nasty people in engineering. Noisy work environment. Bossy co-workers. I hated this place as much or more than any place I've ever worked. Also, the company was willing to make tough decisions if it was for the betterment of the company - they did not keep people around because they had a long history with the company or because they were buddies with management - if you did not produce you were not kept. In one situation an honest hardworking person was moved to a less demanding position, rather than let go, when they did not perform satisfactorily in their role. Mandatory overtime during high volume times - always in the summer. The overall effect of forcing engineering to work extreme hours is that people show up on time, put in their time, and do the usual amount of work. It is unrealistic to expect this approach to produce positive results. A 50% increase in working hours produces about 5% additional results. Also, lower pay than what you would expect in engineering hubs like Detroit. Find some other way of dealing with the natural, expected cyclical nature of incoming orders. Spartan designs, tests & builds quality heavy truck chassis for the motor home, speciality and fire truck markets. They do expect you to put in alot of time for average wages.
